Tim Halperin Reaches No. 1 on iTunes, Sly Stone Is Now Homeless and Other News and Notes...
The stunt, intended to be a middle finger wagging at The Man -- in this case, American Idol, which had Halperin locked up in a contract since he was on the show six months ago -- seems to have been fairly successful. Only hours after his new record's release, it reached number one on iTunes' singer-songwriter chart. I guess being on Idol wasn't all that bad after all, huh?
More pertinent music news and notes after the jump.
- Seems Denton-born soul legend Sly Stone no longer lives in his decked out Bel Air mansion. According to a story in the New York Post, for the last several years he's resided in a not-so-decked-out camper van in the same Southern California neighborhood where Boyz N The Hood was shot. He's still recording music with a laptop he owns, though the acoustics in a camper van don't do well to hide the aging singer's raspy voice.
- Grand Prairie's Selena Gomez can now add another accomplishment to her resume. Right under "Winning a hotness contest against Demi Lovato," the young Disney star can now write "Host of 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards." On
November 6, she'll head to Belfast, Ireland, where the ceremony will
take place. "I'm so excited to be the host of the 2011 MTV EMA," she
says in a suspiciously press release-y tone on MTV's website. "It's a dream come true!"
- In an update to that impending Rolling Stones concert film we told you about just a few weeks ago, a release date has now been set for the 1978 Fort Worth concert footage being presented as Some Girls: Live In Texas. The footage, taken from a performance at the Will Rogers Auditorium in July 1978, will be released to 300 theaters nationwide on October 18 at 7:30 p.m. Among the local theaters participating in the release: UA Fossil Creek 11 in Fort Worth, UA Galaxy 10 in Dallas, Hollywood 14 in Burleson and Cinemark West in Plano.
- Uh Huh Her member and L Word star Leisha Hailey is at odds with Dallas based Southwest Airlines HQ over a kiss. Unfair Park reported yesterday that Hailey and her Uh Huh Her musical collaborator were booted from a flight after being seen kissing each other. She's calling for a boycott of Southwest, but area fans hope she won't boycott her band's show at House Of Blues on Wednesday, October 26 -- assuming she doesn't get kicked off another flight on the way to the gig.
