Stream: Ishi -- "Disco Queen"

ishipatchart.jpg
The summer started out fairly rough for area electronic favorites, Ishi.

In May, you may recall, half the band split from the project, leaving the Brothers Mudd (John and J.J.) behind to pick up the pieces. Didn't take too long to do that, fortunately enough for the band. By the time ex-members Taylor Rea and Rob Bastien had started leaking material from their own project called Zhora in July, Ishi had already showcased their replacements -- Becky Middleton and Rocky Ottley -- as capable performers.

Now, Ishi seems ready to completely move forward. The band has reunited with producer Brad Dale is hard at work on its sophomore LP, which the band expects to be out in 2012. Earlier this month, the band debuted a taste of the new sound through a stream of a new song called "Disco Queen." It's a nice nu-disco update on the electro-sleaze the band's put out to date.

Check it out after the jump.

Just happened upon this band through cohorts from DAL- and I must say, as part of the HOUSTON music scene and singer/writer blond white girl who made it singin for Geto Boys (& Face), Snoop, Korupt, Nate, Yukmouth...yada you get my drift but don't discount my Country roots- I digg fusion of all sorts & this is just what I needed to usher into the fold!!!!Coolest vibe since discovering DIRTY HEADS....also noteworthy with their versatility in sound- and both are composed of real writers (pardon)....anyone who can't GET it doesn't deserve to- And that's all I have to say about that---

I saw them at the Granada a couple nights ago.  They just don't seem to have that "it" factor they had with Taylor.  Becky is cute as hell and sings great but she just does not get into it the way Taylor did.  B/c of that JT feels too over the top with all his wild dancing. It was still a good show but whatever it was that kicked their shows up a notch to must see is gone.

Well, to the best of my knowledge the ISHI members are actually really good people and very down to Earth. People are so damn rude in this city. If you don't like it, don't pay attention to the articles about them and don't go to any of their shows. Being apart of the music scene here many years ago  when it was thriving and then again briefly within the last couple, the $hit attitudes like that are what contributed to the demise and what hamper it rebirth. Be happy that there are some decently talented local musicians still trying to bring music that is dear to them to their hometown for "some" to enjoy. So to sum it up, the fact that they are good guys is simply enough for them alone to be respected.  NEXT D-BAG PLEASE COME FORWARD
