Poster of the Week: Drive-By Truckers and Centro-matic at the Granada Theater on Friday

Illustrator and former musician Wes Freed has a pretty good gig these days: He's the exclusive artist for the Drive-By Truckers, which explains why he's the guy behind the above poster promoting the band's Austin and Dallas performances with North Texas' Own Centro-matic this week. He does their posters, their merch, their album artwork -- all of it.

This hand-drawn image, featuring a topless woman and a snake out in a distinctly Texas setting, while stylistically similar to past Freed works, is fairly unique and fitting. You're gonna send a band to Texas? Might as well send them with some Texas-related imagery.

Most impressive about the design, though, is the fact that it's completely hand-drawn -- the main image and all the text. And it covers all bases: Not only is the poster visually interesting (and presented in a unique artistic style), but it's also got all the pertinent show information on there (show date, performers, venue).

One gripe: The Granada is a "theater," not a "theatre." Oh, well. We can't all have copy editors.

Either way, nice stuff -- even for a dreaded two-show poster design.

Think your poster is better? Want to see one of your designs get honored next week? Drop us an e-mail with an image promoting an upcoming show right here. Oh, and, when possible, be sure to do so at least a week in advance of the show. Thanks!
