The rent for Lakewood bars is too damn high
. At least that's what we're learning this week as another area staple shutters its doors.
"I am sad to say that after 18 years of serving the Lakewood area the LBG is closed! Thank you to all the bands that played and for all the customers that patronized us.
To all the bands that are are booked I appologize for the last minute notice."
Lakewood Bar & Grill owner David Seeberger could not be reached for further comment after several attempts, but as Pegasus News
reports, the landlord, Greenway Investment Company, locked the doors for non-payment of rent.
Guess this means that the Lakewood area Butthole Surfers tribute act, Sweatloaf
, will have to find a new place to play.
The news comes as a shock especially since it arrives only one week after another longtime Lakewood favorite, The Balcony Club, announced that it was behind on its rent -- to the tune of $18,000
. And, as the Lakewood/East Dallas Advocate
noted yesterday, another Lakewood bar is soon to follow: The Lakewood Tavern will be shutting its doors for good in October, thanks to M Crowd
Restaurant Group, who is leasing the bar's space along with the adjacent restaurant Matt's Rancho Martinez for a future Mi Cocina location.Update Friday 10:05 a.m.:
According to M Crowd spokesperson Hillary Gilbert, Mi Cocina will not be using the Lakewood Tavern space. They will only occupy the Matt's Rancho Martinez space.
