The Burning Hotels Remix Calhoun, LehtMoJoe Releases An Album Filled With Local Remixes

- We've spent plenty of time in 2011 gushing about Heavy Sugar, the latest album from Fort Worth quintet Calhoun, and, in this week's print edition, we stay the course, naming the album to our list of best area releases so far this year (more on that tomorrow). Now, we have yet another reason to talk up the band and their new material: Earlier this week, the band posted a remix of their song "Indian Melody," courtesy of their Fort Worth contemporaries in The Burning Hotels. Whereas Calhoun's original take was a rather driving (yet, somehow, melancholy) take with a few electronic flourishes, this new version, produced by lead Hotel Chance Morgan, turns the song into an all-out electro jam. - Area electronic wizard LehtMoJoe, who got some serious praise from DJ Merritt and DJ Jeff K in this space yesterday, recently released his sophomore album, Aisle7. The album, as should be expected from the former mash-up and remix DJ (who has, quite easily, the best ever stage name that honors a former offensive line from the Dallas Stars), is a collection of hyperactive electronica. The really cool thing about the new release, though, is that LehtMoJoe's allowed the tables to be turned on him this time around. In addition to Aisle7, he's also released another album, this one a free download called Remix on Aisle7. The remix disc is a mostly local affair, featuring re-imaginations of LehtMoJoe's work from the likes of Family Circuits (aka Mount Righteous' Joey Kendall), DJ Yeahdef, DJ Merritt and even the Dallas ex-pats in Giggle Party. Well worth the effort of downloading, for sure.
