It's easy to imagine Wilco walking these halls, or the Dixie Chicks ascending the creaky stairwells. Older acts, too.
And, considering that it's a building so old, it's no surprise that ghost stories centering around the historic hall abound. We've never run into any spooks at Sons, but the ancient woodwork would make a perfect backdrop for habitation.
Anyway, the folks at Sons are proud of the hall's status as an historic landmark, and they've been throwing quite the party to celebrate the building's centennial. As part of their "100 Days Celebrating 100 Years" concert series, Sons has booked some spectacular acts to play free shows every Monday and Friday evening.
The 100 days comes to a head on the weekend of July 8th and 9th with the "100Live" benefit shows.
The festivities on Friday the 8th feature Fort Worth honky-tonk mainstay Tommy Alverson. Saturday's headliners are Austin throwbacks Band of Heathens. Both shows promise "secret celebrities guests," too.
Tickets are $25 per day ($45 for the full weekend). And this is for Sons' bread and butter: All proceeds go to fund restoration of the building, plus community outreach.
If you've never been to Sons, it sounds like this celebratory weekend is a good time to head on down.
