Smashing Pumpkins Debut Exclusive New Track on DC9 Sister Site West Coast Sound

For almost two years now, the Smashing Pumpkins (in which the still-hairless Billy Corgan remains the lone original member) has been releasing tracks off of their online album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, one song at a time, on various music blogs, beginning with 2009's release of "A Song for a Son."

Now, even after years of denouncing the album format, Corgan and his band have made known their plans to take a break from that project to focus on creating an in-studio album titled Oceania. This new disc, Corgan tells our sister blog, LA Weekly's West Coast Sound, will act as "the album within the album" on Teagarden.

And, though, like the rest of Teagarden, the song will be released as a free download starting tomorrow on the band's web site, Corgan's been kind enough to pass along Oceania's 10th track, "Owata," as an exclusive 24-hour download on West Coast Sound.

The upbeat, synth-heavy track is a bit of a departure for the band, but it will still surely delight die-hard Pumpkins fans. So, y'know, go grab it.
