J. Mascis Covers Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians' "Circle" For Pitchfork.TV

Back in March, we shared with you quite the treat -- a clip of legendary axe man J. Mascis covering Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians's "Circle" during an in-store performance in Boston. Since then, the song's kind of become a standard in the Mascis' solo sets.

Funny thing about these solo offerings, though: They show a different side of the iconic Dinosaur Jr. guitarist, who's usually best known for his massive electric outputs. For starters, they're acoustic -- as is the entirety of his first ever solo studio full-length, Several Shades of Why, which earned its released just before South by Southwest's arrival.

They're no less mind-bending, though -- Mascis' talents come across just as impressively on an acoustic six-string as they do on an electric one. You can hear it in his Brickell cover, too -- that a guy known for sonic assaults can be just as effective when stripped down.

Which makes the video we've got after the jump all the more engrossing. It's Mascis once again covering Brickell's "Circle," although this time for the folks at Pitchfork.TV, who've put a little production value into their clip. All for the better, too, so check it out.
