Poster of the Week: Marnie Stern and Tera Melos at Sons of Hermann Hall Tonight

M.STERN-&-TERA-MELOs.jpg
You know what I like? A show poster that isn't just about the artist or about a unique illustration, but one that takes the setting of the show into account.

And this poster for tonight's Parade of Flesh-presented show at Sons of Hermann Hall certainly does as much, imagining Sons as some sort of box, with its front facade mimicking its actual front facade.

Even more impressive, though? It wasn't designed by some Deep Ellum-dwelling cat who walks past the venue on a daily basis. Rather, it was created by Joe Barela of Seribellum Press in Las Cruces, New Mexico. And, hey, no local ties aside, he gets it -- that Sons, which this year is celebrating its 100-year anniversary, believe it or not, is a place that many in the region hold near and dear to their hearts.

Yep, it's a storied venue -- and one whose setting plays a large part in the shows it hosts. Yeah, sure, you'll remember that time you saw Marnie Stern and Tera Melos --- but you'll definitely recall the fact that their performances came on Sons' ballroom's corner stage, with its blue curtain backdrop complementing nicely the room's wooden floors. And for that reason, yes, it's important that this idea is hammered home by a poster that a showgoer might buy to remember this night.

Solid stuff, for sure.

Think your poster is better? Want to see one of your designs get honored next week? Drop us an e-mail with an image promoting an upcoming show right here. Oh, and, when possible, be sure to do so at least a week in advance of the show. Thanks!
