35 Conferette Announces Performance Schedule

35conferettelogo.jpg
Well, it finally came to pass: Just before noon today, the folks at Denton's upcoming four-day music festival the 35 Conferette (formerly the NX35 Conferette) posted the full schedule of events for their deal -- or, well, at least the night-time goings-on for its third year of existence.

No word at the moment on the day-time panel and events, but, indeed, 35 Conferette today announced the dates and venue locations for each of the 224 bands it has booked to play its fest.

They've also opened up the sales on single-day wristbands -- which ain't exactly cheap, coming in at no less than $50 per day (and up to $65 for Saturday or Sunday passes). That's a significant increase over the $85 cost for four-day wristbands, which, almost inexplicably, are still available, although we doubt for too much longer at that rate.

At first glance of the schedule, our immediate reaction is that Sunday night in particular is quite stacked -- so much so that it might just overshadow the other three days combined.

Yeah, Sunday boasts a whole slew of big names at various venues, including Big Boi, Gayngs, !!!, Dan Deacon, Portugal. The Man, Damien Jurado, Miami Horror, A Place to Bury Strangers and Jessica Lea Mayfield on top of many others.

But each night does boast a nice main outdoor stage headliner: On Thursday, it's Mavis Staples; on Friday, it's Dr. Dog; Saturday, it's Local Natives; and Sunday, as we already mentioned, it's Big Boi.

Peruse the whole schedule here, then let us know your picks for strongest day, strongest single-venue bill, etc., in the comments.

People, people...it is obvious the only band that matters on this schedule is Spooky Folk.

Nice comments on Facebook @Lori Hillhouse. You really gave it to me!! I stand by my comment. Until you can draw an audience, you are stuck playing shitty venues. That's just the way it goes. Salim is a veteren, he should know this. The comments section of a blog post is NOT the correct forum to bag on an organization trying to put on a music festival. They can't make everyone happy, but I'm sure they will try harder to keep happy the artists who will help their cause (read: draw crowds). Unfortunately, Salim doesn't meet this criteria. Therefore, he has to play by their rules. PERIOD. For someone who preaches about people not supporting local music (I can site my reference if need be), how can you ever take his pleas for local musician support seriously after this little marketing ploy? Pot Kettle Black.

I'm with Salim on this one... I played Jupiter House last year when it was called NX35 and it was the worst gig I ever had... no set time, no soundguy, no communication... it felt like an artist run venue... and the fact that everyone talks in that place and doesn't shut up... I have a feeling it's going to be a repeat in a couple of weeks...

Please give the open slot to Ronnie Fauss...

There is no middle class in the music biz. The I-35 conferette is a perfect example - they stick the poor singer songwriters in a shitty coffee house with blenders blasting while the real festival happens down the street. Who gets paid, who gets rich? The Flaming Lips make thousands while guys like Nicholas Altobelli don't even get a free latte...

Yo Jupiter House,

Just heard of the situation with Salim Nourallah bc I just read the comment. How's about letting me fill that void you have left with some stand up. Not only will I show bring some peeps, hell, Ill even buy a coffee, assuming you have 2% lowfat milk and also that this place really isn't on Jupiter as sweet as that would be.

Salim Nourallah is a diva. I'd like to respectfully bow out of seeing him perform in the future.

I agree. Regardless of whether or not the venue and/or sound system were up to his standards, this was an unprofessional and prima donna way to handle it. He may be the best musician in the world (doubtful), but this kind of public display of vanity turns most sensible people off. Dumb.

A diva, really? I give Kudos to Salim for bowing out of the gig. Salim is a true artist and cares what his music sounds like. Knowing that there is just a PA system in the coffee house. Salim had made arrangments to bring his full band with him. What is the point of bring a full band, when the sound isn't going to be up to his or his fans standards?

Maybe next year 35 Conferette will communicate with their local musicians a little bit more and show them the respect and consideration they deserve.

Obviously, if you were a fan, you wouldn't say that, and if you aren't a fan by now, you probably never will be. So, your comment means exactly nothing.

dear i-35 conferette, i'd like to respectfully bow out of my show at the Jupiter House on March 10. i was planning on playing your sweet little festival with my band but i don't think the Jupiter House is suitable for that. for future reference, just because you drop a P.A. into a coffee shop it doesn't make it a real music venue. so please remove my name from any listings associated with your shindig - i'd feel really bad if anyone shows up on the 10th expecting me to be there!! thank you, Salim Nourallah

Dear Mr. Odwalla,

You'd better show up and play a great set or we're going to come to every show you do from now on and hold up big signs with the word "meanie" on them (one big letter per sign, for a total of six signs). Also, make sure you play some Michael W. Smith covers to smooth things over (we love Michael W. Smith).

Sincerely,Jupiter Mgmt.

Hydrant CafeHeartstring Stranglers,Summer of Glaciers,The Angelus,New Science Projects,Nervous Curtains @ Hydrant. Whiskey Folk Rambler, Burning Hotels, Sarah Jaffe! White Denim, Mavis Staples. MAN...$50 is more than I can afford unfortunately, but it would definitely be worth it.
