The Problem With... Jamie Foxx's "Fall For Your Type"

After getting an Academy Award for Ray in 2004 and showing off his classically trained voice, I'd say Terrell's own Jamie Foxx had a pretty great decade.

But there's always been one thing that makes me think twice about heaping praise on Jamie. That's the single "Blame It." With Auto-Tune screwing up his great singing voice and the incessant repetition of the oh-so-annoying phrase, "a-a-a-a-a-alcohol," the track is just crap on top of caviar.

For all of Foxx's accomplishments in music and film, it scares me that the track will follow Jamie around. And, to think, he got a Grammy for it last year.

Now, though, he's got a new single to pimp out.

Foxx released his single "Fall For Your Type" a couple of months ago. The track features just a simple beat and keyboard pad, and better emphasizes Foxx's singing voice than "Blame It" ever did. Seems like a complete 180 from "Blame It," really. And it'd be a great hangover track -- if hangover music actually existed.

Unfortunately, the song's also got a whole bunch of hangups. Lyrically, most of these come in the first verse, as Foxx disregards the same excuses he offered up in "Blame It" when describing his woman's iffy behavior. (See: "That Champagne you've been sippin's not supposed to make you different all the time.")

Well, Jamie, can't she just do like you? Can't she blame it on the a-a-a-a... OK, I'll stop.

Also, Drake shows up again in this track. I'm kind of running out of stuff to say about him. He hasn't done anything remarkable enough to comment on, except show up on pretty much every track released last year. People are still convincing him he's better at rapping than singing. I disagree. Dude better sing from now on.

Granted, Jamie's a better singer. But wouldn't singing be more welcome here than Drake's monotone rapping? I sure think so.

Yeah, Jaime kind of fell off with this one. I still have hope for his future material, though.

After all, it's not how you fall, it's how you land.

Funny thing about Jamie Foxx: This guy has won an Oscar, makes movies and I guess sells records (I've never heard any of his music)...anyway...why does he still seem B-list??
