Tonight, Tonight: Headkrack at Renfield's Corner, Austin Cunningham at Poor David's Pub and N'dambi at the Prophet Bar

Another hump day finds a couple of local acts displaying their talents. And, considering the holiday coming up, this isn't all that bad of a selection. Actually, it's a pretty great selection.

Renfield's Corner Christmas Party with Headkrack, Vicious Cycle, A.Dd+ and more
Those wishing to celebrate the holidays in a hip-hop way will want to check out Renfield's Corner's Pre-Christmas Party, happening tonight from 9 p.m. until midnight. All it costs is a can of food to get in, and all those eatables go to the Canned Food Drive for North Texas Food Bank. So, you get a worthy cause to go along with your booty shaking, pre-Xmas festivities. Oak Cliff's Headkrack headlines a nice collection of DJs and assorted pointers and shouters.

Austin Cunningham and Loy Woolly at Poor David's Pub
Every year around this time, Garland's Austin Cunningham does a Christmas-themed show at Poor David's. Of course, a songwriter as noted as Cunningham doesn't require a holiday in order to perform. Hell, the guy's songs have been recorded by the likes of Hank Williams, Jr., Martina McBride, Dolly Parton and Wynonna Judd, just to name a few. Cunningham is an old-school country crooner, complete with a big black hat and an aw-shucks attitude. His most recent effort, 2009's Made to Last, was as clear of a statement of purpose as any fan of country is likely to stumble across. Those looking to shed some tears in their beers a few days before Santa comes should check into Austin Cunningham.

N'dambi and The Gritz at the Prophet Bar
Last year, the Dallas-born and Los Angeles-based R&B singer N'Dambi released Pink Elephant, a pretty excellent collection of soul-infused tunes that showed capably why the singer, once a backup performer for Erykah Badu, felt compelled to stand out and shine on her own -- because her talents merit it. Tonight, with N'dambi back in town for the holidays, she joins a slew of other Badu collaborators in The Gritz (featuring a number of backup Badu musicians, including her musical director, RC Williams) for their weekly jam session night at the Prophet Bar. Should be quite the time -- especially since this is being billed as "Christmas with N'dambi," which we think means you can expect to hear some updated renditions on some holiday classics.
