Like Burr, Jaffe and Crushed Stars Before Them, The Orbans Get Some Love From Magnet
Well, it appears as if we're slowly stumbling upon an answer: For the third time this year, Magnet magazine has selected a worthwhile North Texas performer to helm its Magnet mixtape feature. And that's just some of the love the Philadelphia-based rag has thrown North Texas' way in 2010.
Today, along with offering a free mp3 of their track "Barely Someone Known," Magnet has invited Fort Worth's The Orbans, like Sarah Jaffe and Doug Burr before them, to provide a mixtape for its readership, so they can better grasp a feel for where the band is coming from. Like the band, which constantly defends its country-tinged pop-rock as being beyond genre descriptors, this mix similarly finds the band showcasing its wide-ranging tastes, featuring songs from as varied performers as The Sword, The Flying Burrito Brothers, of Montreal, Frightened Rabbit and Andrew Bird. Check out the mix and grab the free mp3 from the band here.
For what it's worth, this is the fifth time, by our count, that Magnet has featured North Texas artists this year. Aside from the aforementioned three features, the magazine has also backed Crushed Stars' latest release and, way back in January, turned over the editing of its blog to Centro-matic's Will Johnson for one whole week.
