Big Boi Joins 35 Conferette's Increasingly Impressive Lineup of Performers
Big news out of 35 Conferette camp this morning -- literally and figuratively, actually -- as the Denton-hosted, pre-SXSW festival has announced that iconic Atlanta rapper Big Boi will join an already crowded and impressive group of performers at this year's third annual go in March.
The rapper, half of the well-decorated progressive hip-hop dup Outkast, had an especially big year in 2010, thanks to the release of one of the year's most critically acclaimed albums, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, the first solo record of his career (not counting, of course, his Speakerboxxx half of Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, Outkast's Grammy-winning 2003 release). The announcement of Big Boi's performance comes as the festival's last add before the end of 2010. More acts are expected to be announced in early 2011.
Big Boi's last stop through the region came in April of this year, when he performed a free show on the Southern Methodist University campus as part of a student-funded affair that was also supposed to feature a set from Girl Talk. Only Big Boi performed, though -- his performance before Girl Talk's scheduled affair caused enough of a ruckus to the point where campus-area residents called in noise complaints and police arrived to shut the event down for the night.
In returning to town for this March performance, Big Boi joins an early list of performers that already includes Local Natives, Gayngs, Dr. Dog, !!!, Mavis Staples, Dan Deacon, A Place to Bury Strangers, Portugal. The Man and others. After the jump, check the entire lineup, as has been announced thus far.
