A Couple More Adds For Denton's 35 Conferette: Jessica Lea Mayfield, A Place to Bury Strangers, Reading Rainbow and Others...

The Denton-hosted, pre-South by Southwest festival formerly known as NX35 went and released another round of performers slated to play its festivities in March today -- and, as with the last round of additions, it features a couple of interesting names.

Among today's several adds: Ohio-based singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield; acclaimed New York City noise-rockers A Place to Bury Strangers; and Gorilla Vs. Bear darlings Reading Rainbow and Nite Jewel.

Add them to a list that already includes Mavis Staples, Damien Jurado, Japanther, Parts & Labor, Colour Revolt, Royal Bangs, Reggie Watts, Viva Voce and others and the 2001 version of the 35 Conferette appears to be shaping up quite nicely, Flaming Lips or not.

Check out the entire list of already-announced bands (which still doesn't include any local adds) and the latest press release after the jump.

35 Conferette Adds Nonesuch Records' Jessica Lea Mayfield to Roster for 2011

DENTON, Texas (December 2, 2010) -- 35 Conferette welcomes Nonesuch Records darling Jessica Lea Mayfield to the lineup for 2011. The 21-year-old singer-songwriter will appear at the festival, March 10-13, supporting Tell Me, her sophomore album produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys slated for release February 8th.

A Place to Bury Strangers, who hold the unofficial yet potently true title of "loudest band in New York," emerging bedroom fuzz-pop duo Reading Rainbow, and Davila 666 of San Juan, Puerto Rico, known for theatrical, interactive sets involving exotic dancers, are also confirmed to perform. Other breakout acts and sonic craftspeople recently announced to play 35 include The Mumlers, Pterodactyl, Franz Nicolay, David Dondero, and Nite Jewel.

Presale tickets for 35 Conferette via Prekindle.com are available at a discounted price of $70 for a very limited time. The festival NPR's Texas Music Matters deemed "the little conference that could" has already confirmed Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Mavis Staples, whose recent record You Are Not Alone was announced as a Grammy contender for best Americana album last night; T-Bone Burnett protegees The Secret Sisters, comedian/musician Reggie Watts, neo-psych band Royal Bangs, art-rock duo Japanther, and indie-folk artist Damien Jurado in its earliest announcements regarding the 4-day event programmed in the heart of Denton, Texas' central business district.

As a 15-year-old in Kent, Ohio, Mayfield made her first EP, White Lies, in her big brother's bedroom. They printed just 100 copies, one of which fell into the hands of Auerbach, a fellow Ohian. The first fruit of a collaborative bond between the budding artist and the new-bluesman stewed for two years in Auerbach's home studio: Mayfield's debut full-length, 2008's With Blashphemy So Heartfelt.

Pitchfork stamped the record with a score of 8.2, deeming it "fascinating and endlessly listenable."

Tell Me is available now for preorder. You can download the first single here.

2010's event in Denton saw the North American debut of Australia's The Middle East [Brooklyn Vegan], a keynote address by seminal punk icon Steve Albini, and a free outdoor show featuring The Flaming Lips with Denton's Midlake supporting. Eleven venues were used for regular programming and about 225 bands from Denton [Best Music Scene, Paste, 2008] to Dublin were on the lineup, deemed a "scorcher" by the Austin American-Statesman. An estimated 20,000 people attended over the weekend.
