What was the first show you went to? Did you go with your parents?
Rockapella at the Harrisburg Forum. It had to be '93 or '94 -- and they were at the top of their game. It was a family outing, of course, but, other than that I don't really remember too much about it. They sounded exactly like Rockapella and brought down the house with "Where in the World..."
What was the first show you ever paid your own money to see?
I think the first concert I ever paid for was Bob Dylan at the Spectrum in '01. I couldn't convince anyone else to go with me ,so I went stag. I figured I might not get to see him again, so I sprung the extra $10 for the $45 tickets. My seat was the second-to-last row against the wall of the arena -- about as far as you could possibly be from the stage. And they wouldn't let me go down on the floor, even though they were cheaper tickets. It was a great show, though.

Tomorrow night, Dr. Dog brings its unapproved-by-Pitchfork Americana stylings back to town for the second time this year, this time for a gig at the newly christened South Side Music Hall, where it'll share a bill with buzzing Brooklyn-based act Here We Go Magic.
In advance of that performance, we caught up with Dr. Dog's Zach Miller for a quick chat about his earliest show memories, all of which, unsurprisingly, took place in his native Pennsylvania. Still, there are some experiences Miller had in his younger years with which we can all likely relate -- like the time he couldn't drag any of his friends to join him to see a rock 'n' roll icon, and the time his parents brought him to see a certain popular a capella game show band.
