The Thermals
Portland-based indie-punk trio The Thermals are known for their heavy lyrics, from achieving a new platform of paranoia about Christian fascism with their critically acclaimed The Body, The Blood, The Machine to speaking about life through death with their 2009, John Congleton-produced Now We Can See.

It's been a year since that collaboration, though, and the Thermals have released yet another album, called Personal Life. The quick timing of another new release isn't all that surprising either; Thermals songs tend to boast fairly simplistic arrangements and compositions with common three chord guitar progressions. But that doesn't mean their music isn't smart or fun. The band's received a fair amount of critical adoration for their controversial lyrics that will touch upon nearly any subject, from sexual tension to assassinating presidents. It's college punk music to the core.

And two lucky DC9 readers have a chance to see The Thermals, with openers Cymbals Eat Guitars and The Coathangers, on Sunday night, courtesy of the fine folks at the Granada Theater. See how to get the tickets after the jump!

Want the tickets? Just be the first person to email Pete with the words "Thermal Socks" in the subject line to win the tickets. Good luck!

Update: Contest is over. Congrats to our winners!
