Giveaway: Five Pairs of Tickets to See Sleepy Sun, Sundress and True Widow at The Loft on Sunday Night

It's a shame, really, that this show has to come on Sunday night. Seriously: If pretty much anyone else other than the Pixies were playing on Sunday, we'd be dragging our asses to The Loft, for sure. Instead, we're just gonna be crossing our fingers and hoping that the show at the Verizon Theatre starts early and that this one at The Loft starts late. Because, here's the deal, folks: This Sunday night bill at The Loft isn't to be missed.

Headlining the show is San Francisco's excellent psych/stoner rock act, Sleepy Sun, who we've seen in Dallas twice in the past 12 months--back at the City Tavern in September of last year and then back at SXSW time when the band participated in Parade of Flesh's Bro Fest at the Double Wide. Dirge-y, groove-heavy and not afraid to be a little self-indulgent, the band is touring in support of its fine new release, Fever, which finds the band even more comfortably settling into its psyched-out stoner dirge role.

But, if we're being honest, it's the undercard here that's got us salivating. Two longtime DC9 favorites, True Widow and Sundress, share the bill, and each should be expected to bring something new to the table at this show.

True Widow's just wrapped up the recording and mixing of its much-anticipated follow-up to 2008's phenomenal self-titled debut, which should be out in early 2011 on a pretty kickass national label if the word we're hearing on the streets holds true. If so, it's well-deserved: True Widow's slow dirge is as compelling as local music in the Metroplex gets, folks--and the band's only getting better and better at what it does. Expect to hear some new material at this show.

Similarly, expect new songs from Denton's Sundress, which, having recently switched drummers, has started taking its alluring, if a little repetitive grooves into a heavier, even more enticing direction of late.

And, thanks to the folks  at The Loft, we've got five pairs of free tickets to hand out to this sucker. If you want in for free--and you should, dammit--just be among the first five folks to email me starting right now with the words "Groove is in the Heart" in the subject line. Good luck!

Update: Contest is over. Congrats to our winners!
