The D-Town Boogie Isn't Dead, It Just Moved To California. For Now, At Least.

Categories: DFW Music News

Just a few months after we openly pondered what will surely go down as great question of our time ("Is the D-Town Boogie dead?") it seems as if we've received a temporary answer, courtesy of a collective of west coast rappers known as the Cali Swag District. In short: No, not just yet.

Proof on the matter? The above video for their song "Teach Me How To Dougie," which we're admittedly a little behind on--the video for the song's been in MTV's rotation since late May, and the song currently sits atop Billboard's Heatseeker Songs chart.

No, it's not a Dallas song, but it sure sounds like one. And, hell, the guys behind it sound like they wish they were from here, if this line from the song is any indication: "I ain't from Dallas but I D-Town Boogie."

Looks like the D-Town Boogie is here to stay for now, folks. The real winner in all this, though? The man behind the Dougie in the first place: Lil Wil, whose "My Dougie" took the city by storm back in 2008.
