Bonus MP3: Matthew and the Arrogant Sea -- "Elvis"

Eat up, MATAS.
At some point later this summer, or early in the fall, Denton's Matthew and the Arrogant Sea plans on releasing its second full-length album, You Can't Tame A Wild Rabbit, the follow-up to its 2008 debut, Family Family Family Meets The Magic Christian, an album we here a the Observer proclaimed as one of the area's best releases of the '00s.

I ran into those fellas on Tuesday night at the Double Wide--the whole band, minus guitarist Caleb Gray, was in Dallas to hear band leader Matthew Gray spin some tunes at the venue.

Naturally, we got to talking about the new release--it was a subject the band was clearly excited about. And for good reason they say: Gray sees the upcoming release as a vast improvement on the last; drummer Jonathan Losasso stressed how much tighter the band was sounding this time around. My curiosity was piqued, and, in turn, the band promised to send along a few tracks--one of which, they said, they'd happily allow us to offer as a free download to DC9 readers.

So without further ado, check out "Elvis" after the jump.

The King's a familiar subject for these guys--he made an appearance in their last album's "Last Time I Saw Jesus," chatting up the so of God. This time, he's more like a metaphor. But he's joined by some horns and some effects, so that's pretty cool. Anyway, this much is clear: Time to get excited about the next MATAS disc, readers.

Catch bandleader Matthew Gray playing solo tomorrow night at Dan's Silverleaf, where he'll share a bill with Hope Trust leader Kelly Upshaw, who himself will be debuting new tracks from his Denton band's highly anticipated new record, Light Can't Escape, at this performance.
