Green River Ordinance Postpones June 19 Date To Tour With... The Goo Goo Dolls?

• OK,OK. I've been poked and prodded enough to respond. In 1990, the Goo Goo Dolls released "Hold Me Up," one of the best pop/punk records ever made, full of songs Paul Westerberg would envy. The Goos never made a better record. I saw them on that tour in Salt Lake City, even did an interview with John that same evening. Pretty nice guy, he gave me some funny quotes. When I asked him what he thought about Tori Amos, John said, "She's so pathetic that she ought to marry a Kennedy." Anyhow, the following records by the goos were pretty solid, but once they had that fluke hit with "Iris," they lost touch with their punk side. It was one power ballad after another. Dizzy Up the Girl from 1998 was a terrible mess of a record and since then, it's been a shitty album every four (!) years. Hell, the best music the goos have made in a decade was for the kids movie "Treasure Planet." Like Soul Asylum, the goos had a fluke hit and followed it to greener financial pastures and vapid, hollow music. I saw them about 5 years ago and when they dug up an old gem, it was good, but the new stuff came across like a band playing a wedding. And since John, like Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum, was such a fave with the ladies, it was an easy choice to make, to sell out. I am glad the made the big time, but the goos have sucked since 1995. I stand by everything I wrote in the original post.

• So the guitar player for GRO and the drummer to the GooGoo Dolls respond to this snide and pretentious blog, but the author doesn't even take the time to reply back??? He's probably to busy listening to the latest droning, melody-lacking, crappy singer, hipster record. God forbid he be caught listening to a band normal everyday people like and you can sing along to. Got to hate those bands that sell millions of records and can fill up stadiums!?!

• CORRECTION: The Goos new album, "Something for the Rest of Us" drops 31 August, not 3 August as I misstated above. My bad... The first single "Home" drops this Tuesday, 8 June

• Oh, I get it. It's a joke. After 1995 the Goos made listenable cd's. My bad....

• Mr "Journalist" she says with a smirk: what rock have you been under? I'd like to know what you define as listenable records. We can't stand still in time and try to be what was felt or expressed 15 years ago. Listen to HOME, think about what it means in connection with the world today. Grow up.

• LOL, who is Darryl Smyers and why has he been in stasis since 1995? The guy sure missed some good Goo. Hope he gets up to speed soon and gets a chance to hear the upcoming album, Something For the Rest of Us, due out 3 August. The first single, "Home" will be released 8 June and is already on the radio.

• Hey Darryl - maybe you should check out a Goo show before you bash them. They are fantastic live, and I've converted many non-fans by dragging them to a show with me.

• Hey brotha! Jamey here from GRO. Hmmmm... no idea why they told you we cant do an interview with you until august. That seems kind of silly to me, plus this is the first time I have even heard about it. If your down to do it via phone we can schedule something whenever you want. Just shoot me an email and we wont have to go thru a middle man. As far as the goo goo dolls go, any time we get to play our music in front of 15,000 new faces we will take it. And Green River? You betcha. Ament and Gossard from Green River went on to form temple of the dog (you better believe I wore that record out when I was growing up) and then pearl jam. We were all kids of the 90's, green river was a little ahead of our time, but pearl jam was king! :) jamey

• You should ask 'em if they've ever heard of Green Romance Orchestra, which is David Abbruzezee's band (from Denton, former drummer of Pearl Jam.) Also curious if former Denton-based drummer Mike Malinin (ex-Last Rites) is still playing with Goo Goo Dolls.

• Why would you have to wait to interview the GRO guys? You can easily get ahold of any of them when they are in town. You can usually find a few of them out and about in Fort Worth on their downtime.
