Good Friday: Memorial Day Weekend Edition
But even without a Brutal Juice reunion, there's a load of concerts this Memorial Day Weekend.
That said, we won't be in on Monday, so here are some noteworthy Memorial Day shows: The DOMA-nominated RTB2 will be at The Old Monk; Mike Rhyner and Petty Theft will be at The Idle Rich Pub; and Dove Hunter will be at Blackfriar Pub.
And now, to jog your memory on shows we've mentioned previously this week...
On Friday: Devin The Dude, Coughee Brothaz, DJ A-One will probably rap about drugs at Granada Theater; The Happy Bullets, American Werewolf Academy, The Distant Seconds will be at City Tavern; and the Bamboozle Roadshow, featuring Dallas' own Forever The Sickest Kids, will crash land at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington.
On Saturday, Odis will say goodbye as they play their last show at House Of Blues, Salim Nourallah, Monco Poncho, Whiskey Folk Ramblers and Stu Dicious will be at the Granada Theater, and Dustin Cavazos will release his new record at Maximedia Studios.
More weekend concerts after the jump...
Here Holy Spain, The Phuss, Hormones
Saturday, May 29 at City Tavern
This triple-bill of aggressive post-punk will give the Brutal Juice shows a run for their money. Here Holy Spain's raw grit and energy might start the City Tavern's first mosh pit.
Saturday, May 29 at Poor David's Pub
This show featuring the former singer of Timbuk 3 penned "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades." What's the over/under that that will be her closing song?
Quiet Company, Curvette
Saturday, May 29 at Hailey's
Austin-based Quiet Company has been cranking out solid indie-rock for several years now. Lead singer Taylor Muse has a great ear for Beach Boys-style melodies, and their shows are always fun events.
Sundress, Writer, Daniel Folmer
Saturday, May 29 at The Kessler Theater
Sundress' new self-titled EP is really good, but their live performances are even better.
Sunday, May 30 at The Libertine
Somebody's Darling is worth paying a cover charge to see, but since this is a free show, it ought to give you more money to spend on suds at the Libertine.
...and that's it for this weekend. I hope everyone gets some wicked tan lines on Memorial Day.
