Good Friday: Happy Bullets, Damaged Good$, Pigeon John, Asleep at the Wheel, Bret Michaels, Cocky Americans, True Widow, The Theater Fire, Ani DiFranco
Tonight's jam-packed. There's The Big Pink and A Place to Bury Strangers at the Granada. There's the Old 97's kicking off the MusInk Festival deal at Fair Park.
Tomorrow night's even busier: The Buck Pets reunite at Trees; Camera Obscura takes to Hailey's; Lucero and Shooter Jennings play MusInk; Bon Jovi plays the AAC; and Shearwater and Wye Oak play the Loft.
Sunday, meanwhile, sees Vampire Weekend playing the House of Blues, Bon Jovi again taking to the AAC, and The Used closing out MusInk.
There's a few other options, of course--not to mention the Fort Worth Arts Festival, which features performances from Leon Russell, Jonny Lang, Los Lonely Boys and others all weekend long--and we've gone and listed them after the jump. Check 'em out.
Happy Bullets, Bridges & Blinking Lights, Nervous Curtains
Friday, April 9, at the Kessler Theatre in Oak Cliff
A nice all-around bill at the Kessler serving as a benefit for the 7th Street mural, which aims to beautify 7th Street in Oak Cliff as it aims for re-zoning as a biking and public transportation road. It's a project close to the heart of Happy Bullets frontman and Oak Cliff advocate Jason Roberts, whose band is also real close, we're told, to having a new album for fans to indulge in.
Damaged Good$, S.A.I., Power Animal, Florene, Uptown Bums, Old Snack, FUR (DJ set)
Friday, April 9, at Rubber Gloves
Kind of a scatter-brained lineup for this event, called "Flush Faces," for reasons I'm not too sure about. But, with Damaged Good$, Florene, Uptown Bums and Old Snack sharing a bill, their musical differences and the reasons behind putting them on the same bill kind of become moot. This show will rock.
Pigeon John, The B Foundation
Friday, April 9, at The Lounge on Elm Street
Los Angeles-based underground rapper Pigeon John stops off for a gig in Deep Ellum.
Asleep at the Wheel
Friday, April 9, at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth
Ray Benson's Austin collective drives up I-35 for a gig in Fort Worth, Kind f surprised we don't see this happening more often, actually.
Saturday, April 10, at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth
Will you be my rock of love? Also: Talk dirty to me?
Cocky Americans, Fate Lions, Manned Missiles
Saturday, April 10, at City Tavern
A solid bill for downtown on Saturday night, featuring three indie rock bent acts on the up and up.
Dove Hunter, True Widow, Descender
Saturday, April 10, at the Kessler Theatre in Oak Cliff
Kind of a beast of a bill at the Kessler--and certainly the hardest rocking from top to bottom that we've yet seen the new theater book. Bring earplugs to this one.
The Theater Fire, Dana Falconberry, Pinebox Serenade
Saturday, April 10, at Rubber Gloves in Denton
Here's hoping this is a sign that The Theater Fire will be out and about playing with a little more regularity these days.
Sunday, April 11, at the Granada Theater
Because, for some people, the '90s never really ended.
...and that about covers it. Got more suggestions? Add 'em in the comments. And, as always, have fun and be safe out there.
