Gig Alert: Story of the Year, Maylene & The Sons of Disaster, After Midnight Project and Terrible Things--All Tonight at the Prophet Bar
Quite the alt-rock line up tonight at the Prophet Bar--especially for a Monday.
Headlining what is sure to be a lengthy evening of music is St. Louis' Story of the Year. These husky Midwesterners have been churning out anthemic and earnest post-hardcore (under a couple of different names) for the better part of two decades. Probably best known for the relatively dour singles "Until the Day I Die" and "Anthem of Our Dying Day," (both from the band's 2003 debut, Page Avenue), Dan Marsala and crew are currently out on tour supporting their recently released The Constant. The band's best effort (despite its overly somber title) is probably 2005's In The Wake of Determination. Yet The Constant has its share of riff-heavy intensity, so fans shouldn't be disappointed if the new record dominates the set list.
Also of note: Alabama's Maylene & The Sons of Disaster, as led by former Underoath singer Dallas Taylor. This spry quartet may well be the best band on tonight's bill, fusing punk and southern rock with Taylor's raspy roar pasted on top of the chaos. Hell, all three releases from Maylene & The Sons of Disaster are pretty damn intense.
Pennsylvania's Terrible Things is kind of interesting, too: A super-group of sorts featuring Fred Mascherino (former Taking Back Sunday guitarist), Josh Eppard (former Coheed & Cambria drummer) and Andy Jackson (former Hot Rod Circuit vocalist and rhythm guitar), the band hopes to have its debut album ready come summer time.
Los Angeles' After Midnight Project rounds out what should be an powerful evening of music. Not a bad way to start out the week...
