Gig Alert: King Khan & The Shrines, The Fresh & Onlys and Bad Sports at Sons of Hermann Hall Tonight

In this week's paper, you may have seen a preview interview for tonight's Fresh & Onlys show at Sons of Hermann Hall. However, we'd be remiss to completely disregard the evening's headlining act, King Khan & The Shrines.

And, no, King Khan & The Shrines shouldn't to be ignored--not that it ever allows itself to be, what with its exuberant, energetic and catchy brand of retro garage-psych and its outlandish frontman, King Khan. Kind of a loose cannon, Khan (born Arish A. Khan in Montreal), when he isn't getting arrested, is one of the more prolific garage music collaborators around, fronting both his King Khan & The Shrines and King Khan & BBQ Show outfits, and collaborating with the Black Lips in an outfit deemed the Almighty Defenders. Most recently, he's apparently working with Wu-Tang Clan's GZA on some sort of project as well.

But nowhere else than on King Khan & The Shrines' The Supreme Genius of... does Khan's own spastic genius more greatly shine through. On that album, he eclectically and electrically waxes philosophically on a variety of topic with a ridiculous amount of ease--and a great sense of humor, as is especially evident on that album's standout, "Took My Lady To Dinner."

Between King Khan & The Shrines, The Fresh & Onlys and local opener (and DC9 favorite), Bad Sports, this is a show not to be missed, folks.
