Poster Of The Week: The Low Anthem, Admiral Radley and Fox And The Bird LAST NIGHT at Granada Theater

So, yes, you're right, this week's selection is for a gig that happened last night. So be it. Unfortunately, it wasn't submitted until just a couple of days ago, but I simply couldn't ignore it because it's frankly one of the best posters I've seen submitted to our weekly fandango.

Besides, this weekly fandango's purpose isn't to announce shows, it's to give props to great graphic design in the form of gig posters, everything else be damned! Although, we do say "please submit your posters at least a week in advance," reason being that if a reader is so inclined to heed the message of that particular week's poster, he or she can actually go check out the gig. Well, forgive me for this week, but like I said, I couldn't let this one slip by, so I'll make an exception. If you were at the show last night, I hope the evening was as sophisticated and compelling as the poster.

But enough about the show that was. Let's talk about the poster that is. And what is it? It's beautiful, at the very least. Created by photographer and designer Andrew Shepherd, this piece is beautiful in a study of color and form, and relies on nothing but that. Capitalizing on the still-strong trend of throwing back to old-fashioned motifs, with the other foot planted firmly in today's modern aesthetic sensibility, this execution not only demands the viewer's focus, but insists on a certain level of maturity and sophistication. Take a little De Stijl, a little Art Deco, a pinch of Mid-Century Modernism, a splash of Bauhaus, shake it up, pour it into a nice clean glass borrowed from Frank Lloyd Wright's wet bar, and sit back and relax this adult beverage of a gig poster. Don't forget a sphere of ice, perfect for the additional event information, as well as providing a nice method of off-setting an otherwise symmetrical cocktail. Smooth.

So, again, please send in your submissions well in advance. Otherwise, more gems like this one may be left behind. Send your posters here, and make sure to let us know the who/what/why about it. Until next week!
