NX35 Moves Flaming Lips and Midlake Shows To North Texas Fairgrounds

Hieronymus Bosch's Paradise and Hell, which is apparently what would happen if Midlake and Flaming Lips were to play on the Denton downtown Square.
So much for a completely walkable NX35 festival--but at least Denton's pedi-cab operators will be busy.

The Flaming Lips and Midlake show set for 6 p.m. Saturday, March 13, has been moved to the North Texas Fairgrounds just over a mile and a half north of the Square, according to the latest update on the NX35 blog.

There was an early time when we were figuring about 9,000 people would fit on Hickory Street for our biggest show. That's not where we or anybody else ended up in projected estimates.

The load on traffic in downtown and other details when you get so many people in one area goes vertical and quickly becomes harder to manage. As we've gotten to know scenarios better, visions akin to something out of the right-side of a Hieronymous Bosch triptych emerge. Yep, that's an extreme, but the range of scenarios still manage to lean toward something that could make for a more unpleasant crowd experience.

The show is still free, though those with four-day and Saturday-night wristbands will have "preference on the lines."
