Gig Alert: Rosie Flores Tonight at Double Wide

San Antonio's Rosie Flores makes a stop in our fair city this evening, bringing her brand of hardcore honky-tonk and rockabilly to the Double Wide. She's been a fixture of the South Texas scene for decades, earning accolades in whatever city she decided to call home--hell, even the mayor of Austin named a day in her honor.

Folks with good memories will recall Flores' stint in the country punk outfit Screaming Sirens way back in the '80s. Since then, she's barely mellowed a bit. Often called a female version of Dwight Yoakam, the singer is currently touring in support of her great new album Girl of the Century. The new record utilizes the talents of the legendary post-punk and alt-country icon Jan Langford of the Mekons--and his fingerprints are all over such spirited cuts as "Who's Gonna Take Your Garbage Out" and "Dark Enough at Midnight."

Fans of no-frills country will not find a better excuse to venture out on a cold February night than this show.
