Giveaway: One Pair Of Tickets For Jonathan Richman Sunday At Rubber Gloves In Denton

For those who know Jonathan Richman only as the goofy balladeer in There's Something About Mary or possibly as the guy behind the Modern Lovers' two-chord proto-punk masterpiece "Roadrunner," this week's Nicholas Hall piece may have come as a surprise. Believe it or not, Hall writes, Richman, while still creating "perfectly realized pop," is capable of darker lyrical themes (and languages other than English).

You can find out for yourself Sunday when Richman and longtime drummer Tommy Larkins take the stage at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios in Denton. And one DC9 reader and a guest will get to do so for free, as the club has offered a pair of tickets for a giveaway.

The first person to e-mail me with the subject "I'm in love with Denton, Texas" will have his or her name on the list, plus-one, at the door. So don't forget to include your full name.

Update: Contest is over. Congrats to the winner.
