The Best Songs in Dallas Music, 2009: Fizzy Dino Pop's Remix of Sore Losers' "Bizarre Celebrations" Has Us Cheering at No. 4

Each of these acts saw moderate success in 2009: Sore Losers capably hopped onto the local hipster-hop craze spurred by Damaged Good$; meanwhile, Fizzy Dino Pop's become something of a fixture in the indie electro-dance scene, sharing bills with Neon Indian, Ishi and the like (as it will tonight at the Granada Theater). And both released new offerings earlier this month: Fizzy Dino Pop released a new EP and Sore Losers released its Free Loaders mixtape.

But it was back in July when these acts first teamed up over a shared affinity for 8-bit video games, releasing a split/collaborative EP called SUPERRVF. Here, within a little-circulated, 20-minute mix, that Fizzy Dino Pop's tinkering of Sore Losers' "Bizarre Celebrations" first saw the light of day. And our heads have been bopping to it ever since.

Innovatively further blurring the line between electro-dance and hipster-hop, the song is almost anthemic in its dancefloor aim; this isn't a dance track so much as a complete party-starter, conveniently wrapped up in a less than three-minute package for optimal enjoyment. And with its singalong hooks ("Party! Party! Party! Party! Party!") and irresistable synth line, it's catchy enough to leave you begging for more.

Fair enough: As the calendar turns to 2010, expect to see and hear more of both Sore Losers and Fizzy Dino Pop. More and more bills are already bearing their names--sometimes together, sometimes not. As both of these outfits gain experience and exposure and continue along their creative paths, we'll no doubt again to be impressed by their efforts. But it's tough to envision an output more unabashedly enjoyable than this first one.
