No. 25: Red Monroe -- "Pat Mayse Lake"
Red Monroe: Out of focus, but as focused as ever...
i second that "Back to Dallas" by Orange Peel Sunshine should make the list. The song was great on the radio and by now I have seen them live a few times and really want to hear more from them!
@djdruemitchell- Thanks for the plug! I had a blast on your show.
@Pete- You should check out some of the great bands and singer/songwriters up north in the little "d"! I host a Singer/Songwriter circle on the 2nd Monday of every month at The Hydrant (208 W. Oak) and you can hear tons of great musicians there. Also, check out Darcy, Big Round Spectacles, Julian Pastrana, Lisa Horan, and Mark Apel.
@djdrue: spoken like a champ! the negative shit on this blog is really getting tired.
@ haters, seriously? Christian, buddist, or martian, who cares?! If its good, its good.(*b.t.w. who is on the cover of Paste magazine this month? Might wanna look into why he is there and what he is 'really' all about) Isn't the point of the Dallas Obsever to get the word out about what is going on? LOVE Dallas music, there are some KILLER acts on this list already, Salim, Red Monroe, Riverboat, Crash That Took Me, all amazing bands, and good songs picked from them as well. I'm gonna check out every single band that is posted on this list that I DON'T know because I respect the artists in this great town, and I trust Pete has done his homework to pick the best. I bet I know the answer if I asked every band on this list,"would you mind if I got the word out about your music, and your shows, to a bunch of my friends who might buy your music or pay to come see you live?" Does it really matter what their faith is, lol?? Gotta love our scene, its the only one we got. So in the words of Jules Winnfield,"lets all be like Fonzy, and what is Fonzy like?" Be Cool.
@Darren: No, the fact that you're in a Christian band trying to fight for credibility in an alternative weekly music blog's comment section is what makes you small-minded.
@ Lance..... No dude, just because I am from a small town (actually Madill) that doesn't mean I am small minded. lol as far as enos beach goes, my type of music doesn't really fit that scene, but if you wanna hear some positive tunes go to www.myspace.com/taken_band and check it out. Thanks
I nominate "Back to Dallas" by Orange Peel Sunshine for this list. Mark (102.1 edge) played it on the local show sunday night.
shut up.
Pete,
You are bringing down the standard of the music scene in Dallas by praising garage bands....
Stop killing the small music scene we have.
@ Darren--I thought Kingstonites only knew about music in or around Enos Beach?
I'm gonna have to agree with Drue on this one, there is so much more indie music out there that you should check out.........
p.s. drue, dig the Spin 180 show and the Spin Lounge...... Look forward to hanging with you there soon...
dude, you ARE the expert, but come on, how about some showing some love! I do a WEEKLY radio show and LIVE MUSIC night w/ 2 bands a week of nothing but indie/unsigned/local/regional music. SO, that is 104 bands that have played this year at my weekly shindig. Have you heard: Ashley Gatta, Patrick Ryan Clark, Men As Trees Walking, Dignan, Llymbo, Radio Revival, Jenn Petersen, Move Merchants? I know you are a into the true indie styles, so some of these might not be YOUR personal flavor, but I saw them all live, and there are some highlights from good 'ol big D! Keep up the good work on the local scene, and utmost mad respects!
p.s. if you need my cred, ask Josh Venable!
