Metal Gig Alert: Mammoth Grinder, Power Trip, Harms Way and Wiccans Tonight at 1919 Hemphill.
|...and an awesome logo, too.|
Although Austin's Mammoth Grinder (great name) is the headliner, Dallas' own Power Trip may be the best band on this quadruple bill. The band's recently released EP, Armageddon Blues, is one of the freshest local metal releases I've heard in ages. Forgoing the standard demonic, deathcore mishmash, Power Trip mines the classic punk/metal influences of Cro-Mags and Bad Brains. Certainly, these guys are worth looking into and out for.
Adding to the fun will be Chicago's Harms Way and Denton's own Wiccans. While Harm's Way have (much) more brawn, Wiccans offers far less cliché with its catchy punk-metal tuneage--especially on songs such as "Teenage Cults" and "Rudiments."
All in all, this is a first-rate bill of noise--and from a venue that continues to consistently bring to town some quality, deep indie shouters.
