• I admit it. It was me all this time. I'm "anonymous". It all started when I moved to Brooklyn. I found myself at hipster parties where I was ridiculed for my lack of obscure music knowledge and was laughed at for not being able to grow a proper beard. So, I sold my Led Zeppelin collection and picked up my first Pentangle LP from the guy that sells used vinyl on Bedford Ave. Now, night after night I troll the Dallas Observer website preying on those who are even more pathetic than myself and dream of the day where I can show-up all of these pretentious assholes to their face. • And how exactly does anonymous think Dallas should "raise its standards"? Perhaps anonymous should become the Dallas Observer's music editor. Of course, that'd require signing his name to an article, leaving himself open to the criticism that anonymous is so good at dishing out. Mr. Freedman cannot be expected to know every band under the sun. Admittedly, I'm surprised he's not familiar with at least Fairport Convention, but even that does not affect his ability to write a well thought out article. Oh, and I'll bet Johnny Lloyd Rollins displays more talent in a second's worth of playing than anonymous will display throughout his entire lifetime. And no, anonymous, criticizing people while not having the guts to sign your name is not a talent.

And Sandy Denny is far from obscure... as is the pentangle and fairport... but that first anon commenter is a complete F'ing fool.. Just cus someone doesn't know about every single freaking subgenre of every type of music doesn't mean that they can't be a journalist or a good music journalist for that matter. • Actually scratch all that. I hurt my pentangle in a bull-riding accident. I wish Dallas had a better public transportation system.

• If he were doing a review, then I wouldn't be happy and I'd say it's time for some research. Anon's comments just seemed like an excessive attack for a quick note of interest. Which was actually of use.

• So I guess it's going to be some medieval Brit pop concoction. Interesting.

• Well technically, being a music critic makes music into a chore. It's work. It's not play. It is profession that is very thankless when done correctly. It is not an undertaking that makes friends out of musicians. While everyone is entitled to there opinions, a music critic must dig deep and be as forthright and brutally honest as they can be to the benefit of the readership. It's a tough job.

• To be totally fair to Pete, he does know a great deal about Dorrough and Neon Indian.

• Where else but music journalism can you, completely straight-faced, tell your audience that you're not that familiar with an entire genre of music? Can anyone imagine a baseball writer saying, well, I don't really know that much about a certain era of baseball? Or a food writer saying, I don't really know that much about this kind of food? A war correspondent saying, "I'm not all that familiar with Russia's involvement in Afghanistan during the 1980's?" Sandy Denny, Pentangle, Fairport Convention, and Feathers are not obscure. Most of them have Wikipedia pages. Feathers is a fairly new band. And claiming you didn't listen to some cheesy seventies pop band until a 2006 indie rock record got you into it, well... What exactly are you going for?
