Well, it's Friday the 13th again, folks. Hope you've planned ahead and set aside 13 bucks for a "13" tattoo at Oliver Peck's Elm Street Tattoo.

As for your show-going plans. Well, we've got your collective procrastinating backs. First, the shows we've already hyped.

Tonight, for instance, has a ton of 'em: Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit sharing a stage with Macon Greyson out at the Longhorn Saloon in Fort Worth; Thao & The Get Down Stay Down playing Lola's Sixth in Fort Worth; The Hidden Cameras performing with Gentleman Reg and The O's at Hailey's in Denton; Ha Ha Tonka performing with Ludo, Meese and Without a Face at The Prophet Bar; and local singer-songwriter Jessie Frye at Opening Bell Coffee.

Saturday, meanwhile, is pretty busy, too: The Revival Tour (featuring Frank Turner, Chuck Ragan, Jim Ward, Jon Snodgrass, Chad Price, and NX35 favorite Possessed by Paul James) stops in to the Prophet Bar; Rhett Miller performs a cystic fibrosis benefit concert with The O's and Shibboleth at the Granada Theater; The Wax Museums performs its only show of the year at Denton house venue The Lion's Den, along with Occult Detective Club; A.A. Bondy and Elvis Perkins in Dearland stop in for a gig at the House of Blues' Cambridge Room; and indie darlings Bishop Allen pop on in to Lola's Sixth in Fort Worth for a show, too.

As for Sunday? Well, we haven't yet mentioned any shows on Sunday. But that doens't mean we won't. Jump with us as we discuss the best of the rest of your weekend options...

Rob Zombie, Nekromatix, Captain Clegg
Friday, Nov. 13, at the Palladium Ballroom

Dallas kinda lucks out with this show, no? Friday the 13th and we get a performance from the current master of horror? Killer.

My Son My Executioner
Friday, Nov. 13, at Reno's Chop Shop Saloon

Popular local metal outfit My Son My Executioner's MySpace page says the band is looking for a guitarist. Not sure if that means the band's down one or is simply looking for another. Also not sure how it'll affect tonight's show. But, given the small confines of the room and the band's big sound, I am pretty sure that this show will be a brutal one. In the best possible way. Oh, and while you're there: Grab a Dimebag burger from the Grill next store.

Chinese Stars, The Phuss, Sensitive Hearts
Friday, Nov. 13, at The Cavern

Providence touring acts Chinese Stars and Sensitive Hearts stop off at The Cavern for this Parade of Flesh-booked show. The former creates some fairly raunchy-sounding dance rock. The latter makes some borderline trip-hop-like minimalist electronica. The real draw here might be local Fort Worth rock duo The Phuss, with its equally Toadies- and Eagles of Death Metal-influenced sound.

Dove Hunter, Dem Southernfolkz, Mo Brown, They Were Stars
Friday, Nov. 13, at Trees
Dove Hunter's the headliner here--and lord knows the roots rock out is always up to that task--but this show is also interesting as it will serve as the CD release show for Dem Southernfolkz' new EP and one of the first solo performances from Jonathan Tyler and The Northern Lights' powerhouse back-up singer, Mo Brown.

RTB2, Here Holy Spain, The Me-Thinks
Friday, Nov. 13, at City Tavern

Three standout area rock outfits, each routed in blues and.or punk influences, sharing a stage together, making for a fine bill.

THe BAcksliders, Spector 45, The Romantic Disaster
Friday, Nov. 13, at The Double Wide

Oklahoma City's The Romantic Disaster make some pretty awesome Sounds-like dance rock if cursory MySpace listens are any indication, and shares this bill with local favorites THe BAcksliders (who have a new Christmas song we'll share with you on Monday) and the DOMA-winning punk outfit, Spector 45.

Shapes Have Fangs, The Golden Boys, Will Kapinos
Saturday, Nov. 14, at Pastime Tavern

Austin's Shapes Have Fangs played the Sailor Jerry movie screening held at the Lakewood Theater a few weeks back, and return to town for this bill, on which, well, it might not be the most interesting band. Austin's The Golden Boys are always good for some fine, lo-fi retro rock tunes and former Jetscreamer and Make Believers frontman Will Kapinos also shares the bill, performing new blues material.

LIONS, Hello Lover, Them Crooked Vultures listening party
Saturday, Nov. 14, at The Double WIde

Two Double Wide favorites on this bill, with the Guitar Hero-approved LIONS from Austin sharing the stage with Dallas' sex-rock party-starters Hello Lover, who have a new disc on the way, I believe. Get to this one early, though: At 9 p.m. the venue is also hosting a Them Crooked Vultures listening party--and if you can find a Universal rep and can list three of the bands the supergoup culls its members from, the reps will buy you a drink on their tab.

Peter, Bjorn and John, El Perro Del Mar
Saturday, Nov. 14, at House of Blues

Them whistlin' Swedes are back, and promising a big show this time around. At a show on the band's tour earlier this week, party rocker Andrew WK stopped on in as a surprise guest. Not sure what kind of tricks the band has up its sleeve for this show, but its publicity team seems to be hinting at something special.

The Swell Season, Rachel Yamagata
Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Palladium Ballroom

The Once duo is back with a new record, which is earning rave reviews despite no movie to back it. Not really surprising: That movie is pretty damn incredible, as great a modern-day musical as we're likely to see for some time.

Municipal Waste, Goatwhore, Phobia, Cauldron
Saturday, Nov. 14, at Rubber Gloves Releasal Studios in Denton

Were it not for Rob Zombie coming through the night before, this would be the clear-cut choice for most kick-ass metal show of the weekend, right? Still might be, actually: You'd think a show featuring thrash favorites Municipal Waste and Ozzfest vets Goatwhore would be able to merit a stage bigger than RGRS'. Expect the bands to tear that place apart.

The Slow Burners, Brass Bed, Fergus & Geronimo, Yellow Fever
Saturday, Nov. 14, at Hailey's in Denton

This show's serving as The Slow Burners' CD release party--well, in Denton, at least. Next Saturday night, the band will hold its Dallas release with a show at City Tavern.

Chris Brown
Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Palladium Ballroom

I'll admit it: I'm a little curious to see how many people show up to see Brown, given his recent, uh, issues. Pretty sure the venue is a downgrade, at least, from his last tour. Didn't he play the Nokia Theatre last time he came through? Whatever.

...and that's your weekend. Have fun out there.

I knew that research said that 97 % of weblogreaders just read and only 3 % responds, but it is good to see the reasons why those who don’t do this! Thanks and keep up the good work!
