BREAKING: Fire Marshal, TABC Officers Stop By To "Investigate" Dada; Tonight's Two Shows Moved To The Doublewide

| TABC officers won't say why Dada was under investigation; tonight's shows have been moved to the DoublewIde. |
Two representatives of the City of Dallas fire marshal office and four Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission officers stopped off at Club Dada within the past hour--and are still there at the time of this posting--saying they are undergoing an "investigation" and "following up on a complaint," although the TABC officers still on the scene won't specify the extent or details of either and deny further comment.
The venue will be closed for the rest of tonight--a decision made by Dada's bar manager, not the officers.
Dada co-owner Ben Tapia could not be reached for comment.
Tonight's two shows scheduled for the long-running Elm Street venue have been moved to the Doublewide--both the Listening Room show with Nicholas Altobelli and Jon Lefler, and the Kid Rock after-party show with Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights, We Are Villians and RTB2.
We'll keep you updated as more info comes in.

Posted On: Wednesday, Jul. 1 2009 @ 11:35PMFormer Employee/bar mgr. calls the TABC on Dada. Doosh move...Doosh move.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 12:08AMWES GARRATT is a little bitter. maybe DJ on Mondays at Whiskey Bar isnt paying his bills
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 8:56AMHopefully they can get it all cleared up and re-open...cause if they don't it would be a cryin' shame.
As for the Douchebag...what goes around comes around.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 9:27AMI don't think anyone filed a complaint against the bar. If you look at what the guy above posted with the TABC link. They were on the No Sell list. Well, they were still selling alcohol and still operating as a bar. Makes perfect sense why they were being investigated.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 10:29AMAll I can say is that the guy with the two pens and the long tie is fucking HOT. The things I would like him to investigate and take pictures of with that camera. I hope, as a hobby he dabbles in OB/GYN work. That shirt, that tussled hair, polishing his instruments. Pap Smear? I thought you said Pabst Beer! Either way, I'll take two sunny Jim.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 10:44AMThe idea that a former employee filled a complaint is retarted. Wes quit so where would harsh feelings come from. Perhaps the bar shouldnt have been run so ill leagally like refilling bottles and giving out free beer. LAst sat they bought some kegs ince they couldnt buy any liqour and charged ten bucks for all the beer you can drink. UMM illeagal! Oh and maybe the owners should pay their taxes and not spend all their money on their drug addiction.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 11:18AMWell, I would be a dooshbag if I called the TABC on Club DADA, But I didn't. Here's the deal, I love DADA. I have met some very cool people working there the past year. Dada is a landmark in Deep Ellum and in the history of Dallas Music. It is Sad to see its doors shut. I Did quit Dada almost a month ago. I did not agree with how business was done and I did not want to work in environment anymore. What I hate is everyone always wants to point the finger and blame. How about the person or persons that didn't pay there bills take some ownership in this situation. Be a man an own up to your mistakes. From what I know Dada is not paying there bills. If you don't pay your electric bill what happens? They turn off your power. Well it works the same way for a Bar. The TABC is there to enforce the rules. If you don't pay your liquor distributors in a timely fashion, then they put on the LIST. The list was created to protect the liquor distributors from people who dont pay there bills. Once you pay your bills, your off the LIST. Its very simple. Well Dada has been on that list for almost 2 months or maybe even longer. I'm sure that was a Big Red Flag to the TABC and I'm sure that might be the reason they were being investigated.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 11:21AMme like wes. i heard solis moved the show to doublewide, not the bar manager.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 11:46AMThats a great picture. Looks like the booze was already gone. those shelves use to be full
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 12:07PMMan, can anyone who knows how to run a business please buy Dada? Should be cheap right now...
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 12:09PMInteresting to see some of the other names on that list - Aurora, Bob's on Lemmon, etc. Guess they have the money to pay off TABC, not so much for dada it seems.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 12:11PMHave any of you punks ever seen Mitch Ryder? No? Then Shut the fuck up before I beat the shit out of ya. You have no clue what real music is. All this "I'm a mountain man" from Richardson bullshit with your baggy pants and terrible facial hair makes me sick. Go get something from the Detroit Wheels drive fast and just listen. Bunch of idiots. Another thing, learn to tune your guitars and stop singing like a damn girl.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 12:54PMWell that is not surprising considering how that Ben guy took care of us bands. I guess he took care of his bar the same way.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 1:07PMIt's spelled illegal and douche you jackasses. And Ten Hands was the last band worth a crap to play at Dada. You kids don't know shit. Mr. Wes, you got a few dollars?
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 1:09PMhttp://blogs.dallasobserver.com/dc9/2009/07/dada_co-owner_ben_tapia_we_hav.php
times are tough, indeed.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 2:58PMThe only people that where still left at dada that I even care about the financial well being of is Frankie and Beard, and everyone knows Beard doesn't work there because he needs the money. Shit the bank usually was Beards money. So, Frankie best of luck. I'm sure you will find something better. From what I hear every other ex employee is much happier now they dont have to work for that fucking jackass idiot. Valerie must be the dumbest person on the planet to put her money/club in Tapias hands. I cant seem to figure out why she is with him. I know it cant be for his faithful ways and DEFF not his good looks!
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 3:44PMHoly crap! Ha! I am amazed you had the balls to say that...anonymously or not....even though we're all thinking the same thing.....
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 4:11PMIt is absolutely no surprise that an enterprise asociated with Ben Tapia has bill paying issues.
He's had issues paying bands long before he ever got to DaDa.
And what the hell is up with all the "renovations"? That's just putting lipstick on a pig.
Sinking more money into an already sinking ship is absolutely beyond me. I think its time we just let the place rest in piece and move on.
Every bar down there has married liquor this year!!! 100% guaranteed. And a million other wrong things too.
TABC is equal to the mafia in the ways the operate. Its funny to see the owners who do man up and give interviews... Oh they were great handshakes etc... They rarely say shit, they walk right in with out ID'ing them selves most of the time. Right behind the bar area, with glares on their faces almost daring you to say something. At which point i've seen everything from slamed and cuffed to drawn on. TABC is a GOOD ol boy network with a very draconian structure. Its laws dated from the wild west, will soon catch up to the agency i am sure.
I have worked at most of these pie holes. Its a vicious circle of owners, who use to be people feeding off a horrible lifestyle that contributes nothingness to the area as a whole. There are of course a very few exceptions, not vary many in the area tho... Wes included.
Prolly 90% of all the owners and employees have serious coke and alcohol problems also. Just as many of them have DWI, pocession, assaults... etc etc. Just the kind of faces you want on your "deep ellum is coming back campaign" posters. You guys are what killed the neighborhood in the first place. Didn't do shit on any associations or boards but were quick to jump on your box and yell all your crap about the "blacks" ruining your hood. Look arround! You guys couldn't make it work when money overflowed from the coffers. Now you are left down there to get by month to month, raping the tills, and what use to be your friends to get by. Sad sad group of people.
It ain't dead... But it damn well should be!
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 5:43PM6pm news on channel 5 just did a story on it being shut down tonight
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 6:14PMWhoa, Whoa....First of all I just want to say that I love the fact that parts of Beards body have started to speak for themselves. This is something I've been waiting for since three on a hill was big'ish. Beards Hairy back is as single minded and to the point as I expected. His heartburn, while not a body part, is as questioning as I knew it would be. His left foot cursed exactly as I expected. In fact I was reading the quote to my Aunt in Rhode Island and she just laughed and then said "that foot has filthy mouth" we just laughed, I then asked her for a recipe for her spicy pork loin which was why I originally called.
She's the best.
She simply said- INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 (1 pound) pork tenderloins
DIRECTIONS
In a small bowl, mix together chili powder, salt, ginger, thyme, and black pepper. Rub spice mix into pork tenderloins. Place meat in a baking dish, cover, and refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours.
Preheat grill for medium heat.
Brush oil onto grill grate, and arrange meat on grill. Cook for 30 minutes, or to desired doneness, turning to cook evenly.
My heart broke when the original owners sold. i stayed exactly 6 months under Shin. it was hard enough keeping that place together sober.
I'll still go see Beard if it re-opens, but it hasn't been Dada for a long time.
And TREES........don't get me started.

You claim to have worked in a lot of, let's see, what was the quaint term - pieholes? And yet you say that the TABC is a good ol' boy network with a draconian structure. And you also claim to have been drawn down upon by an agent? See, all of that tells me that you're full of it.
Posted On: Thursday, Jul. 2 2009 @ 11:36PMFor all of this whining ass BS. Dada is and has provided a stage for people to play, for a long time. Sure, it's hit some hard times, but it wouldn't hurt to support the place. Most of you assholes don't even go there. It seems a lot of you are happy it's failing. You are probably the same people who complain that Deep Ellum is dead. Well, here ya go. Methinks alot of you enjoy this. And that's sad.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 3 2009 @ 11:54AMOn the TABC, they're a draconian organization that wastes our tax dollars with these "show-off raids" like they attemped at DaDa and Rainbow Lounge in Ft. Worth last week, which in itself ended up being a complete cluster-f of its own, not to mention that they more than likely still take the under-the-table "gifts" from the distributor mafia. The only way for that to be fixed is to change the liquor laws in Texas, which may happen w/ a new governor in office come 2010. Permanently disbanding the TABC and changing the way liquor is sold to bars in TX is going to be the only way to fix the problems they have running rampant in their organization and the business in this state
On Ellum as a whole, its been a rough ride for all. DaDa isn't pulling down the money in door revenue/liquor sales that they used to, nor are other bars. Beard is about the only guy down there who has seemed to be a consistent fixture. I'm going to chalk this one up to club management, who cant seem to get their act together. Wasn't this the same group of jackasses who oversold Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and had a fight with some other performer who refused to perform? It shows this club needs to be put in the hands of people who actually give a damn about bringing in decent bands and know how to manage a successful venue accordingly.
i think that the bar went to shit when they fired that hot bartender beckah. she was the shit. just saying.
Posted On: Tuesday, Jul. 7 2009 @ 12:25AMShe got fired because she went off on the owner for being a dumbass and not running the bar the way he should be....that should tell you something right there
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 9:27AMI think there is something that fire marshals are hiding from the public and that is why they have stopped the investigation.
