Gig Alert: Sarah Jaffe Plays The Pearl Cup Tonight
A text this afternoon informs that it'll just be "Sarah and her geetar." No frills.
Ticket are $22--which, sure, is $10 more than I've ever paid to catch Jaffe--but I remember being immensely perturbed with the Dallas-esque audience the last time I caught one of her sets in Denton.
For this show, though, the coffee house is only selling 45 tickets, and that pretty much guarantees a more intimate performance. In fact, the Pearl Cup is so determined to keep the focus on the music tonight that the baristas will only be serving/preparing drinks before and after Jaffe's hour-long set. It all starts at 8 p.m. (pretty promptly I'm told), and the doors will open 7 p.m. for ticket holders. Tickets are still available, but I'd get there early. With limited seating and moderate pre-sale numbers, the show seems bound to sell out, even at $22.
Also, word has it that the shop plans on hosting more of these "Pearl Cup Presents" events if the future. Monthly, even--or so the current plan stands. After gauging the turnout of the first few shows, the shop will determine if future concerts could be in the works.
