Good Times: St. Vincent Gets Some NYT Love

It's Annie Clark's Times, we're just living in them.
The New York Times checked in with St. Vincent yesterday, a day after her sophomore album, Actor, earned its official release--mostly, it seems, because the NYT wants in on the hype, dammit.

The piece is mostly a straight up feature profile, with very little color commentary from the article's scribe. But even so, just like recent reviews and mentions on Pitchfork, NPR and the many other outlets that checked in during the album's early leaks into the blogosphere, it reads like one giant stamp of loving, adoring approval for the former Dallasite and current Brooklynite.

Still wondering what all the hype is about? Actually, if you're in that camp, this piece serves as a pretty good starting point, detailing the basis for St. Vincent's at-once creepy and sweet sound and telling a few anecdotes of her earliest gigs in Dallas.

The most interesting tidbit in my book, though? Gotta be this bit... which I'll share after the jump.
Ms. Clark released her debut, "Marry Me," in 2007, to critical acclaim. Writing in The New York Times, Kelefa Sanneh called it "an extravagant collection of songs that show off everything at once." It has sold about 30,000 copies.
Huh? Only 30,000 copies?

Seems a little low, no? I mean, no offense meant, but didn't Black Tie Dynasty move 10,000 copies of Movements? Considering that Clark's probably going to sell out the Granada Theater in a few weeks on Thursday, June 18, I just don't get it.

Either way, here's betting Actor moves more than that--especially with all this coverage. Any takers?
