Gig Alert: Pops Carter at Dan's Silverleaf Tonight
Don't know Carter? You should; he's been living in Denton since 1969.
His musical beginnings came out of Louisiana and Houston, circa 1930. And, in 1990, with guitarist Christopher Tracey, he formed The Funkmonsters, the band that continues to provide ample support behind him today.
In the past, Carter has sung with B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughn. And his wife, Minnie Lee, is the cousin of Texas blues legend Lightnin' Hopkins. Talk about blues legitimacy.
Last December, Carter and the Funkmonsters released Rhythm Man, the group's first CD in four years. Expect several prime cuts, especially the sensual "Baby, Come on Home," to be on display this evening.
