OK, Now There's Some Locals On The SXSW Performers List...

• Most of these bands suck.

• Slightly off-topic, but "Echoes and Reverberations" tomorrow is about how SXSW got started 22 years ago; and also about how (in 1986) a bunch of Deep Ellum people almost ended up in that exact same stretch of the Hudson River where that airplane landed safely this morning.

• i'm just glad that one of the qualifications of being a writer at the observer is the ability to form witty responses to anonymatards that seem to rag on every f'ing word you write.

• Honestly? Couldn't tell ya. I just remember a phone call in the middle of the night... "Ever heard of ABSU?" "Don't think so... "You're hired." Then, moments later, men in masks broke into my apartment and, when I came to days later, I was in Dallas and someone had printed up Observer business cards with my name on them. The rest is a blur.

• Absu is a fucking famous black metal band, Pete. You fucking idiot. They were on the Gummo soundtrack for crying out loud. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absu How many of those groups up there have a justifiable Wikipedia entry? Go ahead, check out each one. What were your qualifications for this job again?
