The Feds Announce Split, Final Shows

Last week, via a Myspace blog post, one of Dallas' longest-running bands, The Feds, formally announced its impending disbandment.

"After 13 years The Feds are disbanding," frontman Matt Slider wrote in the post, which has since earned plenty of responses from the band's loyal fans. "We would first like to thank our families, friends, and fans for their unwavering support.

"Jason and I (Matt Slider) started The Feds in 1995 while we were in high school. If anyone would've told me that the band would last this long, I would have assumed we were rich and famous and that Metallica was opening for US. But Metallica never did open for us and the closest I got to fortune and fame was being able to pay rent, and Scott Weiland telling me to fuck off."

Catch the rest of Slider's announcement, as well as a few other bits of info, after the jump.

The rest of the post:

All joking aside, we've had many successes in our career and I'm thankful for the time I've spent following my heart. I'm thankful for all the people I've met because of this band and so much of myself is defined by the years we've spent working and creating music together.

As for the near future…we'll be playing the remaining shows we have scheduled plus a final show. I'm not sure when or where the last show will be but you know it'll be badass!

Please feel free to share your memories and pictures on our myspace. We would also love to hear your ideas for our final set list.

So thanks again to all of you! We're so grateful for the time we've had making music for you and we can't wait to ROCK one more time.

Love,
THE FEDS

The band is going out somewhat in style, with a whirlwind tour of final dates in a few cities--Dallas, Denton and Monroe, Louisiana,--that have especially supported its career. The final Dallas show takes place this Saturday night at Firewater alongside Seven Story Drop, Bullitt, Black Tie Vendetta and Lift. The band's final Denton show will take place at Dan's Silverleaf on Friday, November 14, alongside Faktion. Local blog Subservient Experience, meanwhile, reports that the band's final final show is likely to take place in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as far off as early 2009.

There's more news, though: At least one member of the band, bass player Dave Shafer, will continue playing music around town. He'll be hopping on board with the band Zeuss, a side project that features members of another area favorite rock act, The House Harkonnen. --Pete Freedman

I've seen far worse than The Feds in this town. They have a great live show, but they aren't everyone's cup of tea. To each his own.....

If you are a Feds fan and want to see them for the last time ever in Texas make sure you go out to Dan's Silverleaf tonight in Denton. I do believe they go on at 12, Faktion is also on the bill. RIP FEDS!
