A Worthy Cause And Good Music? Looks Like Tomorrow’s The Time To Head To Opening Bell Coffee
Tomorrow night at Opening Bell Coffee, three local musicians and community activists--Annie Benjamin, Lara Lenhoff and Tania Rivas--will each perform a set in memory of comedienne Gilda Radner as part of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Proceeds of the show go directly to Gilda’s Club of North Texas.
Annie Benjamin is a noted solo artist who also fronts the alt-country/pop combo Rocket Girl; her 2007 solo effort, Some Kind of Wonder, was a fine example of sensitive singer/songwriter, and proves her a capable headliner for this event.
Lara Lenhoff is originally from Cape Town, South Africa, but she’s been playing clubs in and around Dallas for several years. Her EP, Hobbies for a Common Girl, is set to be released at the end of the month and Lenhoff hopes to have a full length out in the spring of 2009.
Added to this bill’s multicultural flair is Tania Rivas who hails from Columbia. Rivas currently plays guitar and sings in the local band, The Ramonalisas. Previously, Rivas has played with The Happy Bullets, Pleasant Grove and Salim Nourallah.
Beginning at 8 p.m. and set to finish at around 11 o'clock, this event is a fine blending of terrific music and a charity worthy of your support. --Darryl Smyers
