Steal Of The Week: How To Get Into Tonight's Granada Show With The Cool Kids, Flosstradamus, Ricky Blaze And The Party...For Free
Tonight, the Granada will transform itself into party central as Scion presents one of the most hyped groups of the last year (and one of Rolling Stone's 10 Artists to Watch in 2008): Chicago’s The Cool Kids.
The best part: The show is totally free.
Here's what you need to do to make sure you get in: Go here and sign up for the RSVP list. It's that simple.
After the jump, a few reasons why you should care.
The Cool Kids, comprised of Antoine “Mikey Rocks” Reed and Evan “Chuck Inglish” Ingersoll, performs what could be a first for hip-hop: Retro Rap. Their song production hearkens back to the early days of rap, which is to say that the beats are very simple--they're mostly just a simple beat box pattern, a lot of bass and very clever word play. And most of the duo’s music has been released for free via its Myspace page. The group recently released their first EP, The Bake Sale in June. Check out their new single. “Pennies,” here.
Joining The Cool Kids are Chuck Inglish’s old roommates and turntablists extraordinaire, Flosstradamus. Josh “J2K” Young and Curt “Autobot” Cameruci have made asses shake across the country at big-time music festivals ranging from Coachella, Pitchfork Music Festival and South by Southwest. Head to the group's Myspace page and download its Sigur Ros/Kanye West mash-up “Overnight Star” to get a little taste of what Flosstradamus is all about.
Dallas’ own renowned DJ crew The Party opens, and you should know what these guys are about by now. Check out Nature's recent Taxi Fare Mixtape for a taste--and a chance to hear what the night's other opening act, Ricky Blaze, sounds like, as Nature gives him some love on there, too.
Should be a really fun time. --Lance Lester
