Poster of the Week: Kaboom!

Thu Jul 03, 2008 at 03:58:24 PM

We always appreciate it when visual artists and musicians collaborate, whether it’s by putting on a big event, holding a concert in a gallery or museum, or complementing live music with interesting visuals.

But we don’t want to overlook the smaller ways in which visual artists and musicians work together, or the visual artwork created by the musicians themselves. That’s why we're highlighting show flyers in this weekly feature.

Those groovy ‘60s revivalists at The Lollipop Shoppe always manage to capture the spirit of their happenings in their promotional artwork, and this week’s flyer for Saturday night’s Kaboom! at Space is no exception.

Ike and Tina certainly made their share of “Dancehall Fillers and Hot Pop Killers,” and nothing screams “Explosive Soul Funk” like Ike’s epic Afro, Black Power shirt and a middle finger aimed squarely at The Man. DJ Tigerbee, a.k.a. Patricia Rodriguez of The Shapes, chose a truly dynamite picture for this poster. --Jesse Hughey

Thanks so much for the feature! Once I saw the image I knew it was the one. I like that you guys will be spotlighting the artists and graphic designers behind the scene. Thumbs up!
