Apples in Stereo hits Sons on Saturday. (Josh Kessler)

We already told you about some shows going down this weekend, like The Romantics, Dave Koz, Mastodon (part of tonight’s Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival at Starplex) and Journey.

I know, I know, you deserve better. Here are a few other options:

Mom, Telethon, Matthew and the Arrogant Sea, Responsible Johnny
Friday, July 25 at Club Dada

This is a solid lineup, if a bit unusually matched. I don't see anything that any of these acts have in common, but they I like them all, with the possible exception of Telethon, of which I know very little, except that John Freeman is involved.

Oso Closo, Whiskey Folk Ramblers, Rhondo
Friday, July 25 at Hailey's in Denton

If you still haven’t seen the Whiskey Folk Ramblers, do yourself a favor and check them out the first chance you get. The band took home a Best New Act award (in a tie with the Tejas Brothers) at the DOMAs earlier this week, and it's every bit deserving of the nod.

Apples in Stereo, The Poison Control Center, Big Fresh
Saturday, July 26, Sons of Hermann Hall

Making it all the way through this show would be like eating a bathtub full of Jolly Ranchers. Still, with its Elephant 6 ties, there's an air of credibility waffed over everything Apples does. And local product John Dufihlo involved only helps pique our interest.

Burntsienna Trio, AM Ramblers, The Wrong Reasons, Clint Niosi
Saturday, July 26, Hailey’s in Denton

Justin “J.C.” Collins’ banjo-centric Trio doesn’t play out too frequently, so it’s a good idea to catch them when you can. They don’t have anything new posted to their MySpace page, but hopefully they’ve been working on a follow-up to their great 2006 release, Gregor-Jotace Mission Cathedral.

Lewis Black
Sunday, July 27, Bass Hall in Fort Worth

Yeah, it’s not a music event, but I’m looking forward to seeing the Daily Show commentator feign an hour-long nervous breakdown. Look for my review on Unfair Park at some point on Monday.

And, if you've got anything else to add, please do in the comments below... --Jesse Hughey
