Thanks to everyone who came out to tonight's Dallas Observer Music Awards!

I, for one, had a grand ol' time. How couldn't you have? The performances were amazing: Doug Burr and Sarah Jaffe stunned; The Whiskey Folk Ramblers riled; Lil Wil repped hard; the Best Instrumentalists killed; THe BAcksliders rocked; Record Hop deafened; and The Cannabanoids, they kept thing fresh all freakin' night long.

And the winners? Plenty worthy, folks. Full winners list after the jump, yo.

(Oh, and keep an eye out on this space; we'll be in full-on recovery mode and not posting too much, but, at the very least, we should have some pictues up by the end of the day. So keep an eye out.)--Pete Freedman

Wasn't the likes of Erykah Badu retired from the awards about 3 years ago, after winning the same category year after year after year?

1100 Springs? Seriously???

1100 Springs? Seriously???

Wendy A. says:

Seriously, did Hard Night's day expect they could win best cover band without Mark Ehmann?

Anonymous says:

Does anybody have video of the performances?

Someone Else Who Pays Attention says:

Wendy -

It's ironic that you would think that HND shouldn't win without Mark, because Mark was the one who hurt them the most musically, in the last five years or so since Danny and Chris left. Mark was great in his day (the 90's), but his bass playing and vocals steadily deteriorated to the point of unlistenable, before his inevitable departure last year. The new guy, Trey, is actually much more consistent and professional. He just doesn't have the left handed bass and the Paul mannerisms, which really don't matter in the first place!

well, I have to give props to the Observer, the awards show every year get better and better. I'm sure DJ Frantic(*r.i.p.) could cut Burlap into tiny little pieces, so that was the only dishearting moment for me. Good to see Doug Burr, Jonathan Tyler, & Sarah Jaffee all win well deserved awards. Crazy side note, I know this is not your uber-indie hipster rock(*like you guys favor usually) but how about a Christian or Christian rock catagory next year since there are major acts here in Dallas: the afters, ivoryline, flyleaf, mercyme, one minute halo, addison road, kessler, jeff johnson, playradioplay, eisley, etc. etc. Just a suggestion, love what you guys do for the scene, and big D,..mad respects, -djdrue-

genevieve says:

hell yes, 1100 hundred springs and dj burlap!!!

Few things:

1. Is there nothing more irrelevant to argue about than who makes for the best fake Paul McCartney in Dallas?

2. Chelsea Callahan........?

3. It's 2001 all over again. Eleven Hundred Springs dominates!

Wendy A. says:

un huh, LOL!

Wendy A. says:

no arguement, I stated my opinion and apparently Trey got offended. LOL

Im A big fan too says:

Someone else, why you got to get all rude and bash someone because they prefer someone else? I think Jennifer Aniston is better than Angelina but that doesn't mean that Angelina is just some cheap tattooed whore... oh wait.

Kim Pendleton's pierced clitoris says:

and remember that time Jethro Tull was named best hard rock act?

Chris Bonner says:

Jethro Tull won a grammy for best metal. We get it. Cute screen name. Maybe it should read, punch me in my mouth.

Dimi says:

Record Hop!! Man they are awesome and deserved to win something.

You defame the loins of my sister in law who birthed my niece... I would like to force some morality on you, sir or maam. Please contact me with your information if you would. Kim did not nominate the band for that category nor did she or we do the same either for best blues last year. But, we will keep taking the awards for whatever category that we are thankfully nominated for, due to the peoples response. Insult the band all you want, but don't cross that line you creepy MF living in you're decadent computer land of anonymity. Have the clit to put yr name up. You will get yours sad shitbird! Congratulations to everyone who was nominated and or won/played last night!

Are we serious about HND? Come on people the band hasnt been the same since Danny and Chris left. That was the last time I heard a awesome version of Savory Truffle! That was the start of it those guys were awesome. Maybe it was because of the lack of concern for the fans, the lack of wanting to play different songs and learn a bigger repertoire just to name a few. Inevitable? You can't diss someone wanting to go on to bigger better things! Oh and watch out!!! And you (someone else who pays attention) it has nothing to do with the left handed bass and the Paul mannerisms if you are a die hard fan and listen to the Beatles as well, you will see that there are many things that are missed. Dont hate on the bassist they (HND)are all to blame each and every one of them. The voting is fan votes and you cant do it without the fans! Thinking that you can is.....well I am glad that the name carries on....with replacements. The band isnt together as it was so they shouldnt have won.PS Erykah Badu didnt retire they made an executive decision to retire her. Maybe its time.....to retire HND and let the other awesome cover bands have a chance?

Besides continually booking the worst bands Dallas has to offer, just what the fuck has Chelsea Callahan done to advocate local music? Helping out her friends' bands doesn't count.

Liles says:

Besides booking the bands at Double Wide and helping to get our bands gigs out of town, Chelsea has worked at Crystal Clear helping to manufacture and distribute our artist's CDs to retail stores all over the southwest. She also does a weekly webcast show about North Texas music along with Cindy Chaffin and Fine Line Live.

Congrats, Chelsea. You deserve it.

People. The Beatles are dead. Enough with the bickering.

(Insert snide, ironic Beatles tune title here - here, I'll start - "Come Together")

bob from HND says:

Sorry folks, we'll try harder next year. Thanks to everyone who voted for and congrats to BNS...they surely deserve it!

Anonymous says:

Some good, some bad, and some serious head scratchers (Burlap?).

Burlap Fan says:

Burlap? Why not? He is as good as the rest and has obviously has a better fan base!! GO STEVE!! You rock!

Night Crawler says:

GO TEJAS BROTHERS!!!
HARDEST WORKING BAND OUT THERE!

Sami the Cat says:

1100 Springs? Seriously???
HELL YEAH SERIOUSLY!!!
Bring it back home boys!
We will celebrate when you get back!!!

ChrisU says:

Eleven Hundred Springs. Seriously. Go see what you're missing. Thanks to the Observer for supporting great local music. and that whole HND thing, blame it on Yoko.

Alison says:

I am really sad that Dallas's truly unique acts like Liz McGowen, Yells At Eels, and Akkolyte got snubbed. I'd really like to have seen Record Hop get some recognition too. At least there were some great nominations...

? says:

Is it truly an award when it is based on majority votes? The public proves nothing except it has bad taste.

DwightGooden, PHD says:

"Lil Wil repped hard" - Pete Freedman you are a fucking douche. You need to prioritize your slang. At least try not to sound like an ignorant ass clown.

Anonymous says:

damn...all the drama! It is totally lame that people are posting negative comments on here anonymously. Grow a pair, you fcuktards! I wanna see a Bonner-brothers/Anonymous throw down!!! Like yesterday!

frank says:

Had a blast, as always, at your awards show. Congrats to all the nominees and winners. The showcase was killer and the CD was a nice touch for this event as well. Next year please consider including a punk rock and / or a rockabilly category because I love those genres most of all. Aside from that, great job to everyone involved oh and BAcksliders rule!

A Band Guy says:

Me too, Eric! And "?" that is really kinda facist of you and elitist. All the bands that were nominated were great talents. I had a real great time hanging with people I ain't seen in a while, and meeting new folks, seeing new bands.I wish we could mobilize the "scene" in such a way more often.

DallasMetalhead says:

Fair to Midland wins again...how about getting real metal bands on the ballot for a change? oh that's right..its the Dallas Observer...I hear an indie band crapping somewhere..go give them an award for that..

DOMA=joke

Sharon says:

There were some extremely talented winners all around, but I'm a little disappointed that The Crash That Took Me didn't receive one award. They are some of the most talented musicians I have seen in a really long time. Hopefully next year will be their year.
