We caught up with Tahiti, the "T" in the recently split Dallas hip-hop group PPT, to get his version of the events that led to the breakup and to talk about his future as a musician.

His take on the cause of the breakup isn’t significantly different than Pikahsso’s and Picnic’s. Take the three guys’ stories as a whole, and it seems to boil down to the same combination of creative differences and communication failures that have caused music groups to break up since before hip-hop even existed.

“We had all kind stuff in the works,” he says. “The thing about PPT is, for whatever reason, the chemistry was nice and a lot of people got behind us and went out of their way to make the whole thing work. I really feel bad.”

Tahiti says he and Pikahsso will continue to work together on their respective solo recording projects and live appearances.

“This whole summer is dedicated to creating new music, for people in the DFW area and beyond,” he says.

The duo also plans to continue with video and movie ideas the group was working on, as well as a TV project.

“We had a reality show in the works that had actually been shopped to a network, so we were probably going to shoot a pilot for that,” he says. “Originally, it was going to be following the life of PPT. To be honest, I was surprised that they could find anyone who would be interested. Most reality shows are based around drama, and at that particular time, things were cool. The fact that they were able to shop that to a network, and they were interested, I thought that was really cool.”

Tahiti didn’t specify who was shooting the TV project, and didn’t know which network had expressed interest, but says they’re still in touch.

If nothing else, at least PPT has managed to add to its mix the most crucial ingredient for a reality show: drama. --Jesse Hughey
