Put Stumptone on your list of things to do.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume, again, that, if you're reading this, you've read our print edition. And that means' you know about tonight's Mount Righteous, The Cure, Helio Sequence, Dax Riggs/John Barrett's Bass Drum of Death shows. Oh, and tomorrow's Candlemass shows, too. And then, since I know you've been reading DC9 with regularity this week, you must already know about these shows, too: History at our Disposal tonight and Booker T. Washington's Homecoming tomorrow. And that don't leave too much out. Still, here's the best of the rest.

Heartstring Stranglers
8 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at AllGood Cafe

Denton's Heartstring Stranglers have been threatening via Myspace bulletins that this and the band's next scheduled show (on June 13 at Denton's J&J's Pizza) could be its last until the fall. So, if kinda-gloomy baroque folk is your thing, this might be a good show to take in--and your last chance to see this act for a bit.

Joe Ely and Joel Guzman
9 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at Poor David's Pub

Well, because it wouldn't be very Texas of us not to mention this show, now, would it? And, this is a fine little intimate venue in which to see one of Texas' greats perform. Tickets are $28 at Front Gate. not sure if they're charging more at the door, though.

Stumptone, Raised by Tigers, Audrey Lapraik
10 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at Dan's Silverleaf in Denton

Fort Worth's Stumptone has released one of--if not the--best local releases of the still-young year with its Gravity Suddenly Released. You should familiarize yourself with this band, folks. If not now, at this show, then soon.

THe BAcksliders' CD Release Show, Dragna's CD Release Show, Binary Sunrise
10 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at The Double-Wide

THe BAcksliders are the draw on this bill--it's their release party, so you know; Dragna's just along for the ride--and people really seem to like THe BAcksliders. I think they're OK. And I'd probably like them a whole lot better live (haven't seen them yet) than I do on record. Also, I'd probably like them better if I were trying to set the soundtrack for some teen movie from the mid-'90s. Just sayin'.

Matthew and the Arrogant Sea, Daniel Folmer, Florene
10 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, at Dan's Silverleaf in Denton

You know what Florene sounds like to me? A blend of two other Denton acts: Mom and Zanzibar Snails. And that's interesting, to say the least. But Folmer and Matthew and the Arrogant Sea's oddball blends of acoustic folk-pop are what make this bill so special.

And that's your weekend, folks. Friday-heavy, I know, but that ain't my fault. --Pete Fteedman
