Damn Bloody Shame: Red Blood Club To Close

Ten days left.

The people behind Red Blood Club have made it official: The Deep Ellum venue will close its doors for good on June 15.

In a blog post put up today on the club’s Myspace page, co-owners Brad Garrett and April Collmar explain that they just couldn’t afford to keep the joint open any longer. They blame the city’s demand that the club pay for two certified peace officers after 10 p.m. at every live music event, which costs a total of $100 per hour. This restriction on the club’s Specific Use Permit was a reaction to a stabbing that happened at the club in November of last year.

In the meantime, the club has shows scheduled for nearly every day up until the club’s doomsday. Garrett and Collmar are promising a grand finale, with details to come. After that, they ask patrons to continue showing support for the scene by attending shows at Reno’s Chop Shop, The Double-Wide, The Granada and Bar of Soap. --Jesse Hughey

Lonnie says:

This is sad, it kinda coincides with the article Pete wrote in the print edition this week. RBC will be missed.

and with this the Foundation has put the final nail in the SUP coffin.
Call it what you will but last Friday night when the two cops were standing outside RBC, I watched a guy puke across the street on the Deep Ellum Foundation building (and no, he wasn't leaving RBC...)
This is so disappointing

Great. Thanks a fucking lot Dallas. Now I will have to drive to Denton or Austin to see good punk and metal shows. I hope yuppie vampires come in and suck what little soul you have left Dallas, if you ever had one to begin with. Oh wait! The yuppies vampires founded Dallas? That's right, I forgot. Money makes the world go round and round and round and round.

Loved the RBC since it's inception. Sadness for sure. The only bright side to this deal is Punk Rock much like Metal can not be kept down for long. Michael, Big Mike, Harold (rip) Josh, Brad and April thanks for all the good times we had. They won't soon be forgotten.

I'm not happy about Deep Ellum losing another venue, but that club was a dump. I went there once to see Sick of it All. They are one of my all time favorites and they rarely play Dallas. I bought my ticket, walked in, drank one beer, and walked right the fuck back out. Selling bottles at a packed hardcore show with a concrete floor is a very stupid thing to do. And looking around that shoebox of a venue filled to damn near capacity, all I kept thinking about was Great White. I aint going out like that.

Bruce
yeah, maybe the bottles wasnt a good idea. But, in 10 years, 99% of the crowd respected the club. If someone starts something, the long time patrons take care of it with the moron who starts it and it ends there.
Your'e right though. Bottles were not the best idea. We just get used to good crowds.

No worries anymore after june 21.

Happy Jack says:

What Irony. "We have good crowds." The name of the Bar was Red Blood Club. Imagine a stabbing at the Red Blook Club. Violence at the Red Blood Club? Dallas is better off without this club. Thank my lucky stars.
