Yaz Reunites, Plans Total Situation At Lakewood Theater

So I return from the Memorial Day holiday to find a surprising announcement in my mailbox: Yaz has reunited for the first time in 25 years and is coming to the Lakewood Theater.

Yeah, that Yaz (or Yazoo in the UK). Like, Alison Moyet and Vince Clarke (also of Depeche Mode and Erasure). As in, “Situation,” “Only You” and “Don’t Go.” You know, the band that helped comprise the soundtrack (along with Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush) to that underrated coming-of-age film (based on Robert Cormier’s book) The Chocolate War.

You can call me a freak, but Upstairs at Eric’s was a classic ’80s album and the fact that it might be played live, as opposed to on repeat in my childhood bedroom while I pine over various ill-fashioned boys, is pretty kick-ass for a thirtysomething fogey like myself.

Of course, as far as synth-pop duo reunions are concerned, we’ll just keep our fingers crossed that Ricky Gervais and that other guy in Seona Dancing to reunite and tour…but that’s more for humor’s sake than music. For now, here’s a glimpse at the newly-reunited, lower-keyed Yaz:

Update: The show takes place on Tuesday, July 22.
