School Of Rock Branch To Open In Dallas Area

Categories: DFW Music News

The Austin-based Paul Green School of Rock, which served as the inspiration for the 2003 hit comedy School of Rock, will open the doors to its first Dallas area branch in June.

The school, with its mission statement of "saving rock 'n' roll one kid at a time," has already opened enrollment for its new Park Cities branch and, on Saturday and Sunday, June 14 and 15, will host two open houses in addition to a benefit concert it'll hold on Sunday night at The Loft.

The school, which has 40-plus branches across the states, also plans to host live performances from its student body every three months or so and has already scheduled a September performance of Pink Floyd's The Wall (take that, Roger Waters).

DALLAS, TX - The Dallas/Ft. Worth area has been given "the gift of rock" with the recent arrival of the nationally renowned PAUL GREEN SCHOOL OF ROCK MUSIC.

Fast becoming famously hip amid rapid national expansion as the place to teach kids how to rock - from the classroom to authentic concert stages - the Paul Green School of Rock continues its ongoing mission of "saving rock 'n' roll one kid at a time" with its first Dallas branch opening, located in the Park Cities area.

Enrollment is open at the PAUL GREEN SCHOOL OF ROCK DALLAS, located at 5606 Dyer St, Dallas, TX, 75206, but the Austin, TX School of Rock will help make it official with an all-ages benefit concert for the Make-A-Wish Foundation on June 15th at The Loft (1135 S. Lamar, Dallas). This group of students (ages 7-18) from the Paul Green School of Rock in Austin play many festivals and concert venues in the central Texas area, consistently bringing "the gift of rock" to capacity crowds of all ages with the greatest classic rock hits from Zeppelin to Zappa. In addition, the benefit concert will include performances by Judas Rising (Music Director Mark Warner's top rated Judas Priest tribute band) as well as featured guest Brian Brooks (a current Make-A-Wish child), who will be performing a medley of classic rock songs.
100% of Net Proceeds will be donated to the North Texas Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The benefit concert will help cap what should be a bustling grand opening weekend at the PAUL GREEN SCHOOL OF ROCK DALLAS school, which will host an Open House on Saturday 6/14 from 10 am - 4 pm, and Sunday prior to the concert from 12 - 3 pm.

Classic rock rules at the PAUL GREEN SCHOOL OF ROCK DALLAS, just as it does at the 41 branches that have sprouted across the country. Students at every school are learning to play some of the most intricate classic rock with a keen focus on performing the music before live audiences in actual concert venues. Preparations already are under way for the first Dallas branch live show, Pink Floyd's "The Wall," planned for September with rehearsals beginning in June.

The students will be staging live shows every three months, and in keeping with Paul Green's philosophy, who better to teach than real musicians with years of live concert experience! The director of the Dallas branch is Mark Warner, an active Dallas area bassist who has spent the past 20 years actively involved in the local, National, and International music scenes playing in acclaimed rock bands.

"I believe the Paul Green School of Rock will be a unique opportunity for kids in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area to further and become a part of an already vibrant music community that has sustained a level of excellence for a long time," says Strobe. "More importantly, we will provide an environment in which young people can focus on skills that are not cultivated, or necessarily encouraged in common educational institutions, yet, are vital in terms of personal growth and experience. Our goal is to empower these young people and share this keen knowledge of music education and performance based expression."

About Paul Green School of Rock Music
The Paul Green School of Rock Music is the original and premier performance-based rock music school in the country for students ages 7 to 18. Founded by Philadelphia guitarist Paul Green in 1998, the Paul Green School of Rock Music is the subject of the documentary Rock School, which debuted at Sundance in 2005, went to national release, and regularly airs on A&E. It also served as the apparent inspiration for the Jack Black hit comedy, School of Rock. Built on Green's philosophy that the best way to learn to play music is by actually doing it, the School of Rock program supplements weekly private lessons with group band practice in a highly challenging yet supportive environment. Dedicated to connecting the musicians of tomorrow to the classics of yesterday (students learn by playing classic rock ranging from the Beatles and Cream to Zappa and Zeppelin), the Paul Green School of Rock Music (www.schoolofrock.com ) has expanded to more 41 branches including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Portland, Salt Lake City, Austin and Cleveland, with plans to further expand to 70 schools by the end of 2008.
